Um, just becuase you're white and can shoot doesn't make you Larry Bird. I don't want to go into a history lesson, but Bird is a top ten all time great. Dougy McBuckets might be one of the best ten rookies in his class - he ain't no Larry Bird. Bird had career averages of about 24, 10, 5, 90%, 40%. He is probably the best passing forward of all time. He had the heart of a damn lion, was a natural leader and played with as much confidence in his prime as MJ.

Enough of that rant - I am a Cs fan - bummed about the sixth pick but I think in this year's draft (Napier aside), in 5 years the top 3 of the draft may not necessarily be the "big 3" of Wiggins, Embid, Parker. I think Randle at 6 is the safest bet if he's there - pretty sure he's a legit double-double in the NBA. I think Aaron Gordon has great upside, and can develop into a high energy defensive/rebounder type - like a Shawn Marion. Vonleh is getting a lot of hype lately, and may be solid, but I'm not sure how good he will be. Tough spot - I really just hope this pick turns into Kevin Love with some other manuevuring.

I tend to agree with you here, but I'm wondering if I'm putting too much into his underwhelming title game.

According to this thread Bazz isn't an NBA starter, Rondo is a max contract NBA starter. Is Rondo that much quicker than Bazz? I can't believe Rondo is that much better a passer, shooter, rebounder, playmaker.
 
I'll take Shabazz. He's going to be a star. Friend of mine in FL says the Heat are very high on him. He will go a lot higher than projected.
 
#17 is too high to justify taking Bazz. Its just the way it is as this is the deepest draft class since LeBron's. You cant just take him because he is a Boston kid, there are going to be higher ceiling players and better fits for the Celts at that pick (I think they trade the pick along with #6 personally).

I think the Spurs end up taking Bazz and he backs up Tony Parker until he leaves in 3 years to retire. He will be groomed to Parker to carry the Spurs into their transition from the Parker/Duncan/Manu era.

Napier slipping that far isn't happening. Clippers , or Heat. both of those teams need pg's more than spurs , and each respective franchise player is enamored by shabazz.

Ainge gotta draft Randle/Vonleh and call it day. He can draft a guy like Lavine @ 17, but he is nothing more than Jared Cunningham with no defense. Kyle Anderson IMO a better prospect. Or you guys can trade everything for kevin love (Kevin Love is not Garnett or Lebron, the hype has gotten out of control).

We all love Bazz but come on, he's years away from being Rondo in terms of court vision, passing, handle, and getting to the hoop. Bazz may get there, and I hope he does, but comparing the two of them, at least right now, just doesn't make sense.

Need wise, I'd take Gordon if there. He can plan inside and go outside as a stretch 4.

If not on the board, then I'd go with Randle. IMO, he's got a lot of upside. He can put it on the floor, which for some idiotic reason he didn't do till far too late in the NC game against us. The C's need rebounding help and he'll provide that along with some post scoring as he matures. He can also hit the midrange J and should get better at that.

Wasn't impressed with Vonheh. I know he's young, but didn't seem like a smart player. Not sure if he has the killer makeup you need in an NBA 4.

They don't need to 2G, but Smart is going to be a good one. He's already got a strong physical NBA body.

Bottom line, if Gordon or Randle are still on the board, they'll do fine with either.
 
Between Randle and Gordon you've got to take Gordon. Freak athlete who's only going to get better. And he's almost a full year younger than Randle, which people don't appreciate. The kid won't even turn 19 until September.

Bazz would be a nice pickup with their second pick if they decide they want to move Rondo. If they could add Bazz and get a very good need player for Rondo, I'd be okay with that. I still don't know what to think of Rondo. He's not all that great in the half-court as far as setting up his teammates. He's good in transition as far as that goes. He's not a good jumpshooter. Great defender though.

Add Bazz to run the team, get a very good 5, 4 or 3 for Rondo, why not?

Bazz is going to the Heat if he is there. Lebron has the ball and will flip it back to Bazz all day.

Rondo is a phenomenal athlete. That's one of the big reasons Ainge drafted him. He's very very long too. And Bazz is not better than him in anything but shooting.

I don't see why the Celts can't go with a rotation of Rondo, Bazz, Bradley. People talk like this is an impossibility. Rondo playing with Bazz would be dynamite.

I don't think it would be bad for the team, but I don't think it would help Shabazz's career either if that makes any sense.
 
Kind of off-topic, but how good do you Celtic fans really think Rondo is? I ask because I'm not really sure, and I'm guessing those of you that have seen him on a regular basis would understand his game a little bit better than me. There is a lot of evidence that points to him not being a top ten point guard, but there is an equal amount of evidence that points to him being a transcendent talent capable of doing things no other point guard in the league could ever imagine. I've never been his biggest fan, but there are a couple things you have to say in his defense: for starters, he's a big game player if there ever was one. In his last four postseasons (a hefty sample of 66 games), he's averaged a line of 16, 10, and 7. In his most recent postseason (19 games), he averaged 17, 12, and 7. Those are some pretty ridiculous numbers, and although most people around the league seem to believe his defense is a bit overrated, how many other point guards in the league can defend LeBron? He may be irresponsible at times defending away from the ball, but when he's fully engaged, he can be an elite defensive guard, IMO.

I ask this because I think what Boston does moving forward is really predicated on how good the organization believes he is. If you think he's a franchise point guard, then maybe you put together a package for Kevin Love and try to surround them with solid role players, ride them to a three or four seed in the east, and take your chances that they both want to stick around. If Rondo is the player he was this past season - that is, somebody who can really drown your offense from a floor spacing perspective - then all you're doing by trading for Love is delaying the inevitable rebuilding process.

He is truly elite. You beat around the bush a bit but you seem to acknowledge his weakness is in his head (bing his Olympic team comments). Boston is deciding if they can work w/ him in the future. If Love, or anyone, would be enough to make him happy and productive. Aside from his jump shot, the guy can flat out play.

It's sort of astounding that he's as good as he is when guys can literally guard him with one foot in the paint. That being said, I think he's truly elite when he decides he wants to be but he seems like a moody kid who's going to play how he wants, when he wants.

Totally agree. It seems like its tougher to find an organization that wants him in trade than one that acknowledges his elite status. For instance, I don't know anyone that would send Rondo to GS, but to the Knicks w/ Kerr's mentor, who knows. Not that comparing anybody to Phil is fair, but theres a lot of clubs that want a Rondo, but not the Rondo. Living in Seattle is so easy b/c I don't have a team to follow, but I see Rondo leaving Boston this year amidst management confusion as to his wants, desirability. In the right place, I think hes got CP3 for best point in the league, but I don't think hes going to get the opportunity to show it. Personally, I feel bad for Stevens. Hes either sitting on two high pair looking for a flush, or hes got squat, and looking at year 3 or 4 in his contract to find a 50 win season.

Couldnt't disagree more. His game makes him unique and very difficult to value, otherwise the trade would have been clear by now.

Kemba was a lottery pick and is much faster/more athletic and is a little taller too.

But Kevin Love isn't coming to the Celts if the team plans to trade Rondo, Love wants out for a better team situation, not just a bigger market.
