Will Celts pass on McDermott, the best white shooter in years? He is no slower than Bird who played small forward along side McHale. If only Smart and Gordan are there, I take Doug. Have no use for guards and forwards who don't have a jumper despite Rhondo's success much of which came due to the three hall of famers surrounding him . Vonleh on the other hand is another story. You won't need Love if you get this guy. He has arms and hands so long and large that he won't even have jump to get boards.

To clarify this thought. If McDermott drops 15 pds and picks up a couple of steps. With his uncanny ability
to shoot, would he not be just as efficient and quick as Ray Allen has been for the past eight years.
He can't be slower, can't play worse defense. But he stretches the floor all the time and he can pull the Bird trick of pulling up for the three that ripped out the hearts of the opponents. Doug could do this for ten years. And he would fit into the Bird, Halivcek tradition.

Last summer Doug played against a squad of NBA players. He was able to get his shot and every pro thought he would have no problem scoring at the next level.

If McDermott is there with the second Celts pick, I consider him but then I pass. Bird had 3 inches on McDermott and was a superior passer, dribbler, rebounder.

Bird was 6'9", not 6'11". McDermott is 6'8".

This, of course, isn't the point. McDermott isn't Larry Bird. He might be Wally Szczerbiak, though, which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I do have concerns about his athleticism. It's a quick and dirty look, but McDermott's steals and blocks don't say good things about his ability to match up, physically.

Gotta go best player available and build assets. If any of the top 4 slip, you take them. Otherwise, assuming the Jazz don't take him, you go Julius Randle.

McDermott is not a player they need and although I believe he can contribute at a decent level in the NBA, it needs to be the right fit. The C's are not that and he is not Larry or close!

McDermott just measured at 6'6" in his shoes.

#6 pick will be traded for something, hopefully in a deal for Kevin Love. Maybe something like that pick, Jared Sullinger, and someone else just to make the salaries add up. I'd hate to see Sully go, he's a great young player, but I think any deal that could be made would have to involve him. And Love is awesome.

I'm actually hoping Ainge takes Bazz at #17 because I think his plan is to finally trade Rondo this year

I really don't like Julius Randle. I don't think his game will translate well (keep that in mind when we dredge up the "Who Surprised You With Their NBA Career" thread). I'm not sure who they should go with, but I hope it isn't Randle.

DM gets too many points on the dribble/posting up in college, no way does he do that in the nba. Gordon would be the only guy I'd consider taking otherwise just pile as many picks as it takes to get Love.

If they trade for Love they gotta keep Rondo or else Love would just leave after next year.

I wanted to know the feasibility of trading up 3/4 picks? If you could get in the range of the top 3 prospects that would be great. Otherwise, while Randle gets it done. I am thinking Vonleh, all the way. Grow him into dynamic 5. Doesnt have the 5 but has the length. Otherwise you are trying to figure out how to play Sully, Oly and Randle at the 4. We have a lot of picks, can we use one to add to 6 to get into top 3. Hope to get Parker or Embiid. I dont want Wiggins if I had the choice of the 3. Looks dynamic but the other 2 look like pros already. Exum is high risk no matter what anyone says. Gordon is going to be a great defender until he gets better at shooting. Mcbuckets would be great if we already had a dynamic person at every position and needed a pure shooter. I like Marcus Smart, just not with Rondo in the mix since Smart cant shoot yet. If he could shoot better he would be a great complement to Rondo. Saric is probably a reach at this spot.

Yeah, that's a good point, though any deal for Love would be predicated on him signing a long term deal. I think my desire to see Bazz in a Celtics jersey may have clouded my judgment a bit.

Problem is Rondo and Love will both want a max deal to be in Boston, and I don't think that's how you build a championship team.

Doubtful Love signs without assurance Rondo stays. Also don't think Rondo is necessarily a lock for a max deal either, but ya need blue chippers and the cap is going to rise substantially in the next few years so even if Love/Rondo make 30M+ you have to do it. Celts can pay the tax/MLE/good role players will come for less/more attractive to other stars if you can get those 2 together given both are still relatively young.

comparing mcdermott and bird is stoopid. just stoopid.

Bird was a phenomenal rebounder and perhaps the best passing big man ever.

AGREED
Unless you are a Bird hater - the guy ranks in the top 10 if not top 20 of alltime NBAers - compare DM to him? why? cuz he is white?
The C's need so much right now - they have some basics but they need an infusion STAT!!!!

As a Celtics fan, this would be my two year plan.
- Monster trade shipping out Rondo, Green, Sullinger, and pick 6 netting Kevin Love , future picks
- Kevin Love signs a damn extension
- offer contract to Greg Monroe
- Shabazz at 17
- Stanley Johnson first round of 2015
- sign Danny Green 2015 offseason

Shabazz/Green/Johnson/Love/Monroe

#17 and salary for Omar Asik may be what gets the wheels in motion for Love to come to Boston, like the trade for Allen begat KG's trade. Ainge and Stevens both want a "rim protector" and they see Olynick as a stretch 4/5 which can still provide good value. They will have to part with he or Sullinger though. I think they may like KO's versatility more but I love Sullinger and hope they find a way to keep him.
