Celtics

Things I learn on the Boneyard: the refs are out to get the Celtics.
Refs are not out to get the Celtics- the NBA wants a long series to pocket as much money as possible- don’t be surprised if the series goes back & forth similar to the last two series Boston played in- it’s not by luck….

ITT people who don't watch basketball lol. "Warriors don't play defense" What kind of take is that? They the number 2 defensive team in the NBA. @BGesus4

Well watching is one thing and looking at the regular season metrics is another. I guess we’ll see how the series plays out, but the Celtics had a much tougher time in the half court against the heat. The metrics are what they are, you don’t have to watch a minute of game play to read the list, but I doubt there are many in the league who feel gs is a tough defensive matchup. They literally are regularly switching to zone because they are having trouble matching up.

The officiating overall in the NBA is horrid so as a Celtics fan I can say it didn't cost them the game. The Celts just give away the ball too much and with a guy like Curry you just can't do that. Love Tatum and Brown but those two give the ball to the other team at most inopportune moments. If Brown, Smart and Tatum didn't have those stupid fouls in the 1st quarter its a different game.
Is there a bigger Boston hater than Jeff Van Gundy - those Van Gundy creeps need to be put to pasture
I don't think it's a matter of bad calls. I think it's a matter of the tone that gets set. Illegal screens, 2 hand pushes, grabbing, mauling. When a team gets away with it, the other team's passing game goes to crud, and then of course there will be bad shooting and turnovers.

I expect the teams to split the next 2 games, and in one of them you're going to see all the grabbing and mauling get called.

The guy is a talented basketball player. He doesn't and shouldn't need to do this. Lots of guys get away with stuff. Celtics guys for sure do as well. But there's no need for this. And for the love of God, please call traveling more often. I know they love the Euro step, but it's out of control. The game would be better if played by the actual rules.

It isn't the Euro-step, it's how loose the definition of "control" has become. Guys can control the ball and take 3 steps before they pick it up and technically have ball control. It's crazy.

It's not about favoring the Warriors or Celtics in regards to winning the series. It's about making sure the series goes at least 6 games and stays interesting for fans because that makes money for the NBA.

Nailed it. the NBA has deals with Caesars, FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, theScore and more. When you are getting loot for putting on games that people lay into you need to put on games.

It sounds crazy to say, but sports had way more integrity when betting was illegal and run by the mob.

Yes, what I meant was that they clearly want the Euro-step in the game. I get that. But I've been watching guys hopping on both feet all playoffs. This is after they stop. Hop back and forth with no fixed pivot foot.

Here's another one. I was frustrated by Bam Adebayo's moving screens, which were constant and never called. But at least he started stationary and was setting a screen and then moved to keep defenders from going around it. But Green? He's like a pulling guard run blocking. Manages to block three defenders on this one clip. This isn't even basketball.

They don't call this because of how often guys switch screens. It's unclear when are you getting screened and when are you essentially covering Draymond. When White didn't even try to fight to get around him, the refs considered him guarding Draymond and not getting picked. The problem is that Horford also didn't try to get around Draymond. All of them essentially switched onto him. The original Warriors play looks like a double screen for Steph, but the timing was off, so Looney then set a later screen. Horford has to be up here to cover Steph, but it looks like both White and Horford thought they were supposed to check Looney on the roll. The Warriors don't usually play a lot of PnR, but they did last game in the 2H, so the Celtics were not fully prepped.

To everyone….

Please just go watch the Gary Payton II layup & you’ll notice that there was zero contact on the play- Boston is about to bring the ball back up the court & at the last second the ref calls a foul. There was about 10 of these nuance whistles or non whistles against the Celtics in the first half of Game 2.

The refs are not betting the game, there not gonna make outrageous calls, but they are advised to make the series as long as possible to bring more revenue to the league & the refs are awarded with playoff games & finals bonuses, which is their incentive. Even Steve Javie (who was a beloved ref by the NBA & David Stern because he was great at exactly what I am saying above) said during the game that even though Draymond’s actions deserve a second technical he wouldn’t of called it because of the magnitude of the situation & game.

I know people say this all the time but do they really believe it? Is the NBA an active participant in game fixing?
Yes. It's a business. Owners, players, and coaches benefit financially overall and it's not favoring one team in particular. Remember the NBA is a league that banned anyone associated with the NBA from saying negative things about the Chinese Communist Party due to China being a significant amount of revenue for them. If you understand how horrific and oppressive the Chinese government is, then you will realize the magnitude of the NBA controlling what is said about them. Telling the refs to extend a series by making a few calls for one team is nothing in comparison to how immoral it is to ban the criticism of the Chinese government.

Celtic fans can't be crying about refs considering Jaylen Brown travels 95% of the time he makes a dribble move. The NBA has become very lax with what they allow guys to do but Brown is as blatant as anyone I've seen in the league with this and he never gets called. Some of those foul calls were iffy but that matters in a close game, not when you're down damn near 30 in the 4th.

Why would you watch something you know to be fixed?

Not that I think the NBA is fixed but last I checked Hollywood and WWE make a lot of money and tons of fans.

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't think it's fixed. If you can overcome the heavy finger placed on the scales, you can win despite the NBAs desire that the series goes to 7. Some of these refs have exemplary records when it comes to reffing games that turn in favor of the team down in the series. The most interesting games occur when a series is even, and then games 6 and 7.

Otherwise, even the teams are able to see the writing on the wall.

The calls we're talking about occurred when the Celtics were up 7

Also his pivot foot moved like 2 inches.

This is an example of egregious traveling?

I gotta say the last several posts have been absolutely great posts.the a team has entered the building and taken over this thread with excellent takes on these finals, officiating and questionable behavior by the NBA.well done.

Yes, and it's not even an exaggeration to say that that man travels damn near everytime he goes into his dribble drive. Great player but the refs give him a ton of rope with his "footwork".

Yes, a foul on GP2 when his legs clipped JB on the breakaway and then GP2 missed both free throws and the score remained 22-15 is why the Celtics were down by 29 in the 4th.

If you want a good laugh search "Jaylen Brown travels" on Twitter, everyone seems to know this except NBA refs(and Celtics fans) I guess. You could put together an instructional video on traveling just on his game tape alone.

Remarkable question I'm stumped I give up why would you?
I watch pro wrestling but they admitted outcomes are predetermined. Doesn't the NBA charge a product integrity fee to the sportsbooks? You and the other guy are saying that games are fixed and it's OK because it's business. That's what I find remarkable.

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't think it's fixed.
I don't either, I don't watch much but if I thought it was fixed I wouldn't watch any. But I know plenty of people who casually say it is. And when you ask them why they watch, they call you dumb..

You gotta be 2 people.1 person can't be this dumb
You are (apparently) a Celtics fan. You claim the NBA is fixing games to make sure the Celtics lose. So why bother watching since you already know your team is gonna lose?

Why are you exaggerating?

I think most people here are saying that the Celtics jumped on them and then the tackling started. And once the tackling started, there was nothing to be done. Because if I've hogtied you, you're not getting open, there is no offense, everything gets stagnant, and easy to defend.

It's not rocket science.

The NBA has been so lenient with this for years. Jaylen Brown really does it almost every time he drives. I consider that pretty damn egregious. LeBron is comical in the paint. Dude drags and changes his pivot foot a crazy amount. It's interesting to think about how different the league would be if the game was actually called by the book.

Yup, which is why I think previous generations need to be cut some slack when it comes to players/media/fans taking a dump on their skill level. There's things those guys weren't even allowed to do ballhandling wise and with all of the extra steps without being called for traveling. There's a bunch of stuff like this called for traveling back in the day.

For sure. Carrying is an even more stark change. Fans like to laugh at how guys dribbled back in the day but that's because you actually had to keep your hand on the top of the ball. Tatum, Kyrie, etc. (hell, pretty much every player) carry the ball every time they take more than a couple of dribbles.

I'd prefer they call that and also call the big guys shuffling their feet. Nobody in the league travels as often as Giannis. If they really forced every team to play by the rules, the great players would still be great. But I think the gap between them and ordinary players would shrink.

The league doesn't want that. It's about star power more so than any other sport, perhaps aside from European soccer (which has similar problems). Hockey and football player are somewhat anonymous. Many wouldn't be recognized out of uniform (how many fans even recognize Matt Stafford in his new AT&T commercial?). Baseball, sure a bit more star power but the role of any one player is quite limited. There's no better example than the Angels, who stink with Trout and Ohtani as two of the best in the game. The NBA is very different. Teams play maybe 8 guys and stars carry the day.
