Team looked scared. I kept on thinking they'll get over the hump and turn it on. Obviously, that never happened

Disappointed for them

they were scared because they never played a game in a packed gymnasium before the NEC tourny and they never played a game on mainstream TV.

I didn't see the game, guess I'm lucky. Someone called it a rock fight. I don't know, only 11 fouls by each team. Sounds more like a lot of sheety shooting.

Oooph. What a tough loss
CCSU Net 157
St. Francis Net 308

Very disappointing effort, especially considering the successful regular season for CCSU. Tonight both teams shot about 30% from the field. Just an ugly game. As someone said, St. Francis was just a little less awful.

I have had a pie at Pepe's in Waterbury when I made the mistake of trying to go to Blackie's on a Friday when they are closed. The pizza was good. No complaints and I have had them from most CT locations in New Haven and east.

BTW, Blackie's is a good option as well for 3 dogs and a birch. A mile or so off I-84 at the Cheshire exit.
1 cheese, 1 well, large coke, bag of chips. Had dinner there tonight!

Central had the shortest line-up I think I’ve ever seen.
I think you're right. Momo looked like a 7-footer out there but he's only 6'-7" and may have been the tallest player on the floor.

Don’t feel too bad. Even people from Waterbury forget from time to time and show up to closed Blackies on a Friday.

The "quality" of basketball in that game made me think the whole conference needs to move down. I'm sorry for their fans, but there are many high schools in New England that have better talent.

The whole reason Central had the season they did is because of the conference they were in. Before LIU went on a little run to end their season I was really curious to see if Central would be the only team with a winning record.

I appreciate you having self awareness.

The NEC still isn't the worst conference. Have you seen the SWAC?

CCSU had one of the worst offensive showings I have ever seen. Really wanted to see them get this one.
Sellers’ scout was completely wrong. He forced the top arc pick and roll 1000 times, his smaller guards couldn’t find the big, and then forced them to play iso hero ball. He didn’t even think about changing it up.

Say what you want about St Francis, they at least ran a variation of plays but the shots weren’t falling.

#2 played hero ball killed them. I mean it wasn’t like there was anyone playing good but he was awful and didn’t see a shot he didn’t like. Also was the defender on the last shot who let the kid go full court and stop dead to leave him flailing away so he was wide open for a 10 footer.

Lots of bad basketball but 2 and #23 were masons can’t win like that.

I think they were in the exact same situation very recently, and lost. Different players maybe, probably a different coach. Maybe that loss was on their minds

Happened to us in 2022. The kids had a different attitude in 2023.

I still think the NEC is maybe the worst conference. So many schools have left over the years for greener pastures. It's tough being the top dog in a one bid league at conference tournament time. All the pressure is on the top team and none on the others.

The key was NEC POY Jordan Jones going 2-for-10 from the field. He averaged 16.3 ppg and made 60% of his twos and 44% of his threes in conference play.

Since CCSU doesn't typically draw at-capacity crowds like last night, I wonder if the energy/noise was a shock to the Blue Devils.

I watched the Southland semifinal between Nicholls and Lamar which Lamar won 58-55 after CCSU game. Not the greatest basketball in that game either.

Even if it was the pressure of the situation, they needed to fight through the nerves and they never did. If they looked that bad yesterday under the bright lights, how would they have looked as a 16 seed vs. a 1 in the big dance?

Demoralizing loss all around. That conference is so weak now though I expect them to be back in that position soon unless they drop down in sports like some people are speculating.

Jones also had 5 turnovers, turned it over more than he scored. Haid was also awful. They combined to go 6-26 with 8 turnovers.
