“the most inefficient elite level 5”?

What does that mean? Among the best players he was the most inefficient? I guess I get your point but let’s not lose sight of the fact that he’s a pretty damn good player. People who get paid for this stuff thought he was one of the 5 best centers in college basketball.
He’s a really good player and in my opinion can be great. But if people want to trumpet him on the Kareem list this year, ( and he was one of 5) then it is a fair measurement against those other 4, No?

It’s a big part of his system. So, next year with Clingan will answer the question whether Dan is more system driven or personnel driven.
That’s what we’re wondering. It’s a valid point about the recruiting of Clingan. Does anything change?

Today Josh played like UConn Josh
It was bad matchup for him having to play Samuels most of the game but yeah he wasn't too effective inside either on offense.

Bad match up for Josh and a couple bad calls hurt. The charge for foul 3 could’ve been an “and 1” if the refs called it like he played for Nova. He did miss a couple bunnies though too but the whole team were masons in this one.

He did better than our guys, good for him nice way to end his college career!

Article from the New Haven Register.

“I wasn’t surprised at all,” Whaley said of Carlton’s success. “I actually knew he was going to have a good year for Houston. Josh fits Houston’s system really, really well, because he’s a strong, strong player and gets offensive rebounds, and that’s always been their M.O. I knew he was gonna succeed there, because he’s always been a hard-worker, he’s always been very coachable.”

It wasn’t always an easy process.

“I think he actually really wanted to come back (to UConn),” Whaley noted, “but it wouldn’t have benefitted him as well for him to come back. It really worked out well for both parties.”

Isaiah Whaley knew ex-UConn men’s basketball teammate Josh Carlton would succeed at Houston

I'm OK with him being only the 5th best center in college basketball.

Are you OK with a high use 5 shooting 50%?

I mean everyone trumpets his 30 point game against Auburn. Anyone here know how many shots taken?

I want his shooting percentage to improve, of course, but it gets much more difficult to maintain a high shooting percentage as you take more shots. That's why nobody in their right mind would argue that Amida Brimah was a better offensive player than Sanogo despite his career 64% shooting percentage.

Would you relax please? We have one of the best centers in the country and you're whining about his shooting percentage. Remember the guys been playing basketball for only FIVE YEARS! We know the kid lives in the gym and works his tail off. He's going to only get better in the off season

Agree with all of that. Too high usage this past season. Agree?

We sacrificed this season to develop him?

The offense wasnt run through Amida, was it? Point being you dont run an offense through a 50% shooting 5 who also cant pass. Sounds like suicide, doesnt it? If you are a 5 who shoots 50 you shouldnt see the ball most trips, should you?

If we didn't give the ball to Sanogo as much as we did I don't know where the points would be coming from. You wouldn't be getting many open looks on the perimeter and you don't have anybody that can penetrate. So where are the points coming from if you're not making teams have to defend Adama?

I wonder if Houston fans are killing coach Sampson for designing an offense that only put up 44 or is it on the players for missing so many open shots? IMO it's on the players, but I give Hurley the same benefit of the doubt when UCONN misses open shots.
Sampson got his team to a FF and then lost to a top 10 team in the elite 8 a year later. If we lost in the elite 8 rather than to 12 seed in the first round I don’t think folks would be upset. See the difference?

So your solution is to rarely give Sanogo ball?

Got it. Missing shots in the early rounds is the coaches fault and In the later rounds its the players fault. Makes Zero sense but Bonehead logic rules in the Boneyard. Of course the one caveat will be losing in the elite 8 three years in a row. Then the coach gets killed.

I remember very well Jay Wright getting destroyed in 2014 after he lost to UCONN. The narrative was he'll never be a big time coach.

I’m sorry. You’re right. Everything is on the players. Nothing is coaches fault.

You love calling folks names which tells a lot IMO. sorry you can’t see the difference between 2 years of success v 2 years of $t-ing the bed in the tournament

I do and math does. Look up the best offensive lineups on uconn this year.

Maybe it's the color red but I always liked the Houston Phi Slamma Jamma teams and enjoyed watching Nolan Richardson and the 40 minutes of hell. Those Mayberry/Day/Miller teams would have won a championship if not for UNLV. Those were way better teams than the Corliss Williamson championship team. Add in the fact Sidney Moncrief was one of my favorite NBA players in the 80's and he's an Arkansas alum and I'll be rooting for Arkansas and Houston every game going forward.
You’re taking me for a ride in the “Way Back Machine.” Before that my high school friend and CT’s Own GOAT played for the then San Diego > Houston Rockets …..so aside from a soft sport for Josh, happy for him, I can relate to Houston as well.

The math also says we had the 19th best offense in the country making Sanogo the focal point. If he's holding the offense back then man we must have some incredible offensive talent elsewhere to offset that.

the 19th offense got us to? See your problem is you think Im trying to blame this seasons under achieving on sanogo. Im not, Hes just one of the problems. This is a Carlton thread so Im trying to stay on topic.
