Odd, I got that weight from 247
First off, these sites are often way off with this sort of intel. Secondly, you have to take into account what class they're in and their age. Some of them need time to fill out. And third, DD held his own just fine this season. Why do you do often have to criticize our team and players. We just won the fricken NC, and DD was a big reason why we won it.

I say this with no arrogance or condescension towards any of the student athletes we recruit, but I think Ollie is pretty much a household name in every high school family who has a kid MCBB bound. And I suspect that Ollie will be looking for "UCONN" type of kids. I'm not sure if he will continue with his 10-toes in mantra, but I suspect he's looking not only for phenomenally talented kids, but also kids with a great attitude, who aren't afraid of hard work, who value team ball and teammates over personal accolades, and who are just all around special people.

On the women's side, there aren't a lot of recruits who are capable of being UCONN players. I suspect that the same may be a bit true for the men. Egos and attitudes are either left behind in high school, or they will have no place on a UCONN team...

Ollie is not only going for talent, but character as well. We all know in the later years of JC, he recruited talent first and character second (Nate Miles). Geno goes after character first. Even the best of recruits he guarantees zero playing time to unless they work to prove themselves. His players carry themselves in a different manner. If Ollie can get good players and those of good character, he will be successful.

Ollie recruited Brandon Austin just last year.

Why do people worry about the weight of 16 year olds? Weight does not predict future basketball success. Just the opposite -- players who are lighter and still perform at a high level have more upside. As their bodies develop and their weight training improves, they can take further steps forward, whereas the big strong 16 year olds are already performing much nearer their peak.

Lots of kids gain lots of strength and size between 16 and 20. It's not a concern. Basketball talent, skill, and character matter far more than weight.

On the way into the championship game, a group of UK fans was literally listing the weight of their bigs while telling us UConn didn't have a chance. I calmly tried to explain that as long as they were playing on a basketball court and not a scale, the Huskies would be just fine but they weren't having it. Glad they have that lbs. title to hoist at Rupp while we're hanging another banner

Dont forget their height. There is no way a 5-11 and 6-0 guard can play on the same court with UK's 6-5 guards. No way.

With all due respect, Geno is recruiting girls. How many girls get into trouble compared to the number of boys who do? This isn't a knock on Geno, but he goes after every #1 ranked player.

Geno is going to get pretty much any elite player he wants. Success breeds success.

There are few choices for women's players to play for a program that is "guaranteed" to go to the FF at least 3 times in their 4 year stay. If UCONN is recruiting you-you go.

And the BIG advantage is he gets them for all 4 years. Think about it 4 years of Taurasi, Moore, Charles etc etc. And now Stewart for 2 more years.

There is a reason why he has 9 titles.

They can't leave they have no where to go.

I would love to see Geno have to operate in the same environment that JC/Ollie have to operate in. Constant threat of the player leaving early and greater competition for the player (more than 2 others schools where the women's player can go and compete for a NC).

Safe to say in the above situation Geno probably wouldn't have 9 titles.

Why? That would mean fewer UCONN championships. I like it just the way it is.

You are entitled.
Personally, I would like to see what he would do with real competition for players and Championships.

Right now the outcome of the women's game is as predictable as a WWE match.

Right now there is no competition for either.

So he probably wins Championship #10 and #11 before Stewart leaves.

Yeah, you can't nail all perfect kids. It's impossible. Too much unpredictability. Kids do dumb things.

People say JC recruited too many scumbags, but a bunch of the quote/unquote ne'er-do-wells were good kids. AJP and Williams were both from well off respectable families. Wiggens was a decent kid in high school. You can't always tell.

That said, JC probably had too much confidence in his ability to 'rescue' a kid too (Nate Miles being the last).

You already did. It was called 1986-1995. He created the greatest program in womens basketball history.

He should get credit for building it. I'm not saying that.

I'm talking about now where he could/should win almost every year.

I don't know how he'd do in the men's game (don't really care either), but it ain't that easy to sustain success either. Everyone says, "oh Geno just sits there and collects the best players and wins". Getting those players to buy in and play and develop the way he wants is impressive. The guy's clearly a better coach than anyone else in the women's game. Just look at Duke, with a bench of AAs. Their coach can't even get them in the FF.

You are not wrong. He is a HOF coach. And he built a dynasty.

That's not my point.

My point is I would like to see him have to operate with one and dones and have more than 2 teams max. be in contention for a title.

But he does get to keep them for 4 years.

I would have loved to have Rip, Donyell ,Mek, Ray, Caron, Kemba etc etc. for 4 years. Something tells me we would have hung up more bed sheets.

He recruits very little - they recruit him
How many All American male players would be willing to sit the bench just to get a chance to win a NC or 2 or 3?
Males have more of a hunger to play, females look more for comfort and team success - granted there are some that are exception to the rules
I coached girls soccer 24 years up to Olympic Development and boys also - boys would go where they could play, the girls, for the most part wanted it to feel good. My daughter turned down so many great D1 scholarships to play at a D3 school where she fit in better - it was a great choice in the end.
I just can't see so many All American HS players all wanting to be on the same team but it's a great problem for Geno.

The other women's coaches have their players for four years as well. It's not like his players are staying while the ones at other schools are leaving. It's the same playing field.

No kidding.

I'm saying I 'd like to see him have to operate in the one and done environment( and with a deeper field of competitive teams).

No doubt Auriemma's recruiting issues are not the same as for Ollie. But it isn't quite the case that he gets every top ranked girl he winks at or that they recruit every top 10 kid. He gets very high character kids basically across the board, which may say more about the nature of the universe for female recruits compared to the universe of male recruits where there is no such thing as a stud player who isn't recruited by someone.
