The hottest temperature ever recorded in Vegas is 117 which was reached at 4:07 PM on June 20, 2017. The average high temperature in July is 104. 118 would be unusual in that it would break the all-time temperature record. 110-112 is probably about the extent of their hottest days of the year.

It felt like 118 this past summer. 117, 115, 113, you really can't tell the difference when you're outside in that heat. It was 113 on my granddaughter's freshman orientation day 4 years ago. I remember looking at the temp on my phone. We're not use to THAT kind of heat. A lot of the festivities were OUTSIDE. We almost died. THAT was one day we were glad was over.

Okay it wasn't 15 miles but I had to walk about a mile to the bus stop when I was a little guy. We were out of town a fair bit, on a big orchard, in what is already a very rural area. It probably wasn't up hill both ways, but it felt like it.

In Terryville (now called Plymouth) we were 3.5 miles from the Town hall where we played BB 3 nights per week and Saturday afternoons. Blizzard or icy rain--basketball came first. Our School had no Gym so we practiced and played at St Casmers (sp) dance hall. No football, no baseball --only Basketball until sr year then we got Baseball. The telephone poles hummed 60 cycles loudly as we walked past the in the real cold. I prayed for a ride often .

I used to live in Syracuse. If you’re not going to play basketball, not sure why anyone would want to face the brutal Syracuse winter where the average snowfall is 124”.

you'd be surprised how many high school seniors in my daughter's class have applied to Syracuse...............despite the weather it's got a reputation as a good academic and great party school.............

That makes one of us rooting for Q...I remained unconvinced he will develop her.

I can't root for Q since he wouldn't give Breanna a home game. He ended up scheduling a Div III school and drawing a few hundred on the same day that Breanna played her senior homecoming at Colgate in front of a sold out 2,500.

After the Esmery Martinez saga, I remain unconvinced she’ll really end up at Syracuse.

I do wonder about the people around her and why they might be pushing her towards college so strongly. As a South American, she could go pro back in Brazil or Argentina next year after the school year and then go prove herself overseas next fall in the Spanish second division or the top league in Portugal and put herself in position to be a reasonably high pick in the 2021 draft (assuming no rules changes). That would set her up for bigger paychecks sooner since South Americans generally need the reputation of being WNBA level to get noticed at the higher levels. If she sets foot on a college campus and there end up being any issues, she would be pushing back her WNBA eligibility back two years even if she never plays a game.

The base question: If she isn't academic qualified where does she go to build up entrance requirements? Many Women or Men players have JV'ed and as @oldude pointed out more JV's until there isnt any more. Academics are not as easily attained if attained not so easy to fudge your way through other courses. Geno has had one or two that were academically unqualified (but qualified) and sat while not passing courses. It's not an easy fraud to pull off.

Academic Redshirt: (Sometimes called a Partial Qualifier) College-bound student-athletes may receive athletics scholarships during their first year of enrollment and may practice during their first regular academic term, but may NOT compete during their first year of enrollment.

Nonqualifier: College-bound student-athletes cannot practice, receive athletics scholarships or compete during their first year of enrollment
at an NCAA Division I school.

The bottom line is Syracuse can admit & put her on scholarship without the required score and she redshirts a year. There is very little opportunity for fraud here, her status is determined by the NCAA clearing house and is the same regardless of school she decides to attend. Simply put if she is a Nonqualifer for Syracuse she's a Nonqualifer for everyone. Just because she maybe signing a NLI this week also doesn't mean she is a Full qualifier and have met the test scores.

Thanks for the explanation of the academic redshirt rule. I had heard the term, but had not really considered its applicability to Cardoso’s situation. It’s a good bet by Q. I suspect Syracuse will surround her with tutors and the necessary academic support she’ll need to qualify if she’s willing to put in the effort.

I knew you'd know if anyone did. Thanks. The Fraud comment was based on some issues in that regard with Foreign Recruits coming through New Jersey or other states with that intent.
I never doubted that if she wasn't qualified for Cuse she wasn't qualified for Uconn or that Uconn would want one having issues with being qualified. As I said, Geno has been down that road.
