Can't figure this team out.

It’s pretty simple, and we don’t have a fix.

We are a finesse team playing in a league where that isn’t often going to work. We have guys that are either lazy with the ball, or they just don’t have the ability to handle pressure well. Solo can’t really go right, AK can’t really go left, i’ve noticed Liam’s left isn’t very strong either.

Our perimeter players lack the necessary foot speed to stay in front of guards consistently, and we don’t have the eraser like we had with DC that makes up for it.

A lot of this problems impact our offense, because foot speed, burst and lack of weak hand ability make it so we rarely drive effectively. We rely on shooters and when they are off, our offense is off.

Hurley and the staff have either completely ignored OOB practice, or these players have no clue. It’s the worst aspect of the gane i’ve ever seen from a supposed top team. Like @superjohn said, very mid teams can get the ball in bounds no problem. It’s ridiculous frankly.

We also don’t really have a clutch player and the guys we go to to hit free throws didn’t do it today. Just a gross, gross game that highlighted the vast deficiencies this team has.

I don’t know if some of you realize how awful of a loss this was. This is the type of loss to keep you out of the tournament. It’s that bad.

Karaban inbounding is like watching Daniel Jones try and find an open receiver on the Giants when he was there. We need a new inbounder.

Yeah I thought he would be at least a shooter. I know playing out of position has impacted his ability to create too,
I agree. I was really excited w the Maheney add over the summer. But this miss is the biggest reason we haven’t come close to our expectations. It happens. It’s easy to see what the coaches thought. It didn’t work out. Doubt they make the same mistake twice.

.-.
We will continue to root, analyze, break it down, complain and freak out because we all hope for the best. Seems pretty unlikely, as it did in 2011.
I think we’re gonna need another Makers Muppet.

I haven't read through the whole thread. Has anyone called "Thread title/avatar" on the OP yet?

I don’t know if anyone noticed but some of the top ranked teams have lost to cellar dwellers in their conference this year. It’s just not us though we have

What has Reed showed that makes you think he will be a difference maker? It surely isn't his defense. Problem is both of our centers have big warts.
Reed is more of a traditional center than Samson. When Samson got hurt in the Gonzaga game, Reed came in and solidified the middle and neutralized Ike. Reed can be an intimidating force in the middle who can change shots and grab tough boards. It’s a shame he isn’t given the starting nod over Samson who frankly stinks in the role.

When you have a 7 point lead with 36 seconds to go, and the game goes to OT, and then regain a decent lead in OT with seconds remaining and then lose the game…….That’s on the coaching staff.
Absolutely. I am eternally grateful for the last two seasons, but this game is on the coaches.

SJ has not improved at all. Can't shoot or rebound. No idea what Dan Hurley is doing with him up high. Need to get a get new blood from the portal at that position. TR seems disengaged at times. Maybe some dissent?

The Mahaney experiment can be officially called a complete disaster. He was supposed to be a key add and he brings zero to team.
I think we were all expecting Mahaney to be a lesser version of Cam, but Mahaney (on the court) is the polar opposite.

He just seems so apprehensive.

There was a sequence when Addae-Wusu was guarding him and it was so stark the size and strength difference. You would think Mahaney could take him off the dribble, but obviously that didn't happen.

How about 7 rpg per game and 9.3 ppg in limited minutes on the season so far.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that is what Reibe is known for. You may be disappointed.

How about Creighton, Oregon, Indiana, and Kansas being disappointed when they didn’t get the kid? He’s not Donavan Clingan but he’ll be a clear improvement over what Hurley has now. Not to mention Adams and Mullins, and McNeeley possibly hanging around.

We continue to beat ourselves with TOs. That will be our Achilles heel for the rest of the season. If we take care of the ball, we win.

Tarris and Stewart have to play more confidently and consistently for us to even have a chance to make a deep tournament run. We need them to combine for 20 & 10 every night (unless Liam wants to regularly turn into Larry Bird again).

Sorry, I've given up on Mahaney and Ross is too one-dimensional to have any tangible impact at this point in the season.

Boneheaded fouls by our bigs are our 2nd Achilles heel. I'm afraid if this hasn't been corrected by this point in the season, it never will be.

We've been spoiled the last two seasons. We're lucky if we get to the Sweet 16 IMO.
The dimension Ross and Mahaney are in, is sitting . Because they do so little.

PUHLEASE

It’s a good team. Not a great team. We are spoiled. Depending on matchups we can go on a roll. But let’s stop expecting a 3peat.
Who is expecting a 3 peat??? That may be the funniest thing I’ve heard all day

Bubble team
And one-and-done if they do get in.

The fouling issues, the lack of a strong inside presence, the prevalence of long scoring droughts and.... of course....chronic inability to get the ball in safely. That all adds up to a likely 10-beats-7 result in March.

Hurley should have never hyped a 3-peat at the start of the year. He knew the issues this time would have and he looked foolish when he started walking it back post Maui.

He was still talking about it two weeks ago.

Oh no all … Travelman6 “might check out”. As if losing to SH wasn’t bad enough, now we might lose a stalwart like Travelman6.

Good riddance to you and your weaksauce TM6.
Oh take a hike with your condescending nonsense. Everyone is upset.

Getting ready for more of the same next year unless we pull a couple of true point guard transfers.
Didn't bother to listen to the post game presser, but watching this fiasco you realize there are more issues than just at the PG spot. A loss like that raises serious questions about many levels of the program. Poor at-the-moment coaching, inexcusable lack of taking advantage of the height difference, breakdown of execution (looked at times there were no plays being run and the ball had to be chucked up in the last seconds), complete laxity of defense especially dribble drives into the lane and to the basket, no fire at all, just going through the motions, and more. 3 peat? Not this year and best of luck to the loyal fans but who knows when another may happen.
