OT: Canelo vs Crawford ?

I had 8-4 but yeah similar thoughts. Bud is insane and skill wise is quite clear of Canelo. Not sure what his next move would be, might as well clear out 154 because he obviously can. As I said, this is arguably a top-5 boxing win of all time, and being a 3 division undisputed is such a great legacy. He has nothing left to prove really.
154 is a stacked division and Bud is not showing any signs of slowing down, but I agree he has nothing left to prove. Bud could retire right now as an all time great. He is the first fighter in history to be undisputed at three weight classes in the four belt era. More incredibly doing it at 140, 147, and 168. Truly an incredible career.

You did. Great job. I was worried that Canelo would be able to wear him down in the middle to late rounds. I am also always concerned about judges in Canelo fights ever since Adelaide Byrd robbed GGG in that first fight by seemingly filling out the scorecard before the fight even started. Really hate that GGG did not get to be undisputed at 160 which he deserved and should have been before retiring.

You were correct to worry about the judges cards going into the fight. GGG would have gotten the decision in the 1st fight had he unloaded a bit more on offense.

In general I expected Canelo to get more tired into the later rounds, and knew that Bud would outbox him. Bivol did it. Moving up and fighting a bigger guy would be a problem for 90% of other boxers. Usyk could do it, and had a feeling Bud had the ability.

Bud was dominant. He had more options. Canelo fights one way no matter what. Bud picked him apart and he never let Canelo fire off multiple effective combinations. He didn’t get trap in ropes or corner allowing Canelo to fire off combinations and dig to the body in combinations.

Canelo has essentially been retired since Bivol whooped on him. Ducked Benavidez to bring up Charlo 2 weight classes and fight other 168lbers that nobody wanted to see. Tried for another cherry pick bringing up Crawford 2-3 weight classes and it backfired on him. Hopefully this is the end of his chapter, he did the sport a disservice these past few years as the face of the sport. Props to Bud, it happened later in the fight and it wasn't as pronounced as it was early in the Spence fight but once Bud was moving Canelo in the clinch you could see Canelo was out of answers and it was funny to see how frustrated he was later in the fight with his reactions.

Great fight. I think. I was watching the prelims, fell asleep and woke up at the start of the 11th round. Watched two rounds, saw the decision and back to sleep.

I'll rewatch the full fight sometime later this week.

I saw that 2 of the judges had the scorecards tied until that last 2 rounds which Bud clearly won. Bud was right to to not take chances and decided to really take those rounds.

Terribly sad boxing news - Ricky Hatton passed away. Lost a battle with his demons. Just beyond sad to hear it.
He hasn't looked good the last few times I saw him talking. Also his son's boxing career wasn't going well. There's only one, Rickyyy Hatton!

Saw that, but did not see a cause of death listed. His struggles were well documented. Really sad.

It's ridiculous how long boxing matches are. 12 rounds is too much. 3 and 5 in other fightsports is much better.
I am on the flip side of this. I wish some championship fights went back to 15 rounds, but I understand the reasoning for cutting it back to 12 rounds.

The WBC recently cut back interim and lesser championship fights down to 10 rounds. Boxing really needs a global unified commission. Having 4 major and multiple other governing bodies waters down the product, each having different rules and rankings.

Bud said in the post fight he is definitely not going to 154 but he mentioned 160 which i think if he doesnt retire is his best play. He can go for undisputed in a 4th weightclass. Right now the belt holders there are Janibek x2, Lara and Adamas. Those are three very winnable fights that he can get done next year if he sets one up by February/March. He should fight Lara, ADamas and then Janibek for undisputed late in 2026 or early 27. He`d be the A side and if theyre on Netflix they would all be big money fights for him and theyre fights that can get done pretty easily.

That was an insane display of boxing ability. Crawford made Canelo look like he wanted to give up because he was so frustrated that there was nothing he could do. The same Canelo who is not far removed from being p4p king and is normally a skilled defender and counterpuncher.

Would’ve been very interesting to see Bud fight Mayweather in their primes.
Agree. Masterful. Classic Boxer vs slugger. I thought I heard an announcer say Canelo said "I just couldn't figure him out". Both fighters recovered from some very powerful punches. When you see somebody's head snap back by a straight right or left or sideways from a hook and they aren't phased that's pretty remarkable. Well reffed as well. No hanging on in clinches. Thoroughly enjoyed and reminded me of boxings finer days. Two very "rough customers"!

Canelo may go down as having the best chin in the history of the sport. Not only does he eat punches he is very good at doing the subtle things like rolling punches to take the power out of them.

If Bud does want to continue, 160 is his best bet to collect more belts. 160 is a weak division, outside of Yoenli Hernandez, and he can clean that one out pretty quickly. 154 is deep and would probably be tough to get back down to comfortably in a short amount of time. Bud is not young (for the sport) he can hang up the gloves today and be an all time great.

Crawford post fight did something that almost supersedes the victory but hasn’t been mentioned here yet. He went to his opponents post fight press conference, put his arm around Canelo and gave the personalized championship belt back to Canelo! He said that he held it for so long he was deserving and would have another one made for himself. Canelo seemed very touched by him showing up to do this.
This is just great sportsmanship especially in a violent sport that often focuses on braggadocio. Others inside sports and out should take a clue from this.

Returning of the belts is standard, but not often caught on camera or done immediately post fight/in person. Usually they go back to the sanctioning body who then decides if they want to return them to previous champ. The new champ always recieves their belts by mail. Definitely great to see those exchanges after going to war with eachother.

Canelo and Bud have a great respect for eachother and are both stand up professionals and ambassadors of boxing.
