Kid is from CT, started college at Sacred Heart and then transfers to Cincy.

Double dagger with those 3's.

Anyone know the back story on why UConn didn't recruit him out of high school or when he decided to transfer?

Nobody recruited him out of high school, or else he would have never went to Sacred Heart.

As for the transfer, who knows. He would have already seen Gilbert, Adams, and Vital on the roster, so maybe he wasn't interested. It's also possible KO saw those three and thought there was a need elsewhere. Backcourt isn't really this team's problem, to be fair, at least until it loses its two best players, and you can't really account for that.

Big schools didn't recruit him out of high school, he wanted to transfer to UConn and Ollie didn't want him. He's hit big shot after big shot against us since.

KO did talk to him many times - he wasn't going to take JA's or AG's place
When he came out of HS he was interested quite a few schools UConn, St Johns, Fordham and Seton Hall but all gave him the same info - need to go to prep school and refine part of his game but when Tony Lantina said he could start at Sacred Heart he decided to go there. Tony saw something that a few overlooked but there was and is no way he is good enough to unseat JA or AG but he would have seen some time - the kid wanted to be a starter

You're wrong. He wanted UConn, KO didn't want him.

Incorrect. It was very clear he wanted UConn once he decided to transfer. What’s even worse is 2 things:
1. We had an open scholarship that I believe went to Mike Noyes if I remember correctly
2. Ollie RECOMMENDED Cincinnati for Broome. Said he had a great relationship with Cronin and that’d he’d take care of him. So Ollie helped a conference rival. Very nice!

When Cane Broome became available on the “free-agent” transfer market back in March, 2016, he was waiting for one call in particular. “Cane would have gone to UConn if the offer was there,” Broome’s father, June, said on Thursday. “That offer was not available.” The Huskies had McDonald’s All-American Alterique Gilbert coming into the program. They also believed Daniel Hamilton was coming back for his junior year.

We were recruiting very well at the time so the decision is understandable.

I'll take Jalen Adams and Alterique any day over Broome. It helps that Broome has better players around him.

No one would argue that, but I think he’s better that Tarin Smith & Antoine Anderson, both of who have gotten a lot of run the last 2 years. That said, Tarin did play well today.

If he were here, he'd have gotten a lot of burn and we'd be better for it.

That said, it's easy to critique the decision knowing what we know now rather than recognizing how and why the decision makers did what they did in the appropriate context.

Given what we know, take Broome 10/10 times.

Given what was happening then, it's murky, and I'm unwilling to criticize KO for it.

This much is correct. But wasn’t an open scholarship available? You NEVER pass up on depth because you think you have enough. This guy would’ve given us decent minutes and an outside threat the past 2 years.

They were also pretty confident that Vital would be committing shortly.

He had to sit, right? There's only so many spots you want taken up by people who can't play.

Broome has killed us, but it's not like he's lighting it up otherwise.

We didn’t miss much there. He’s a luxury at Cincy where you don’t care if you put a 158-pound guard on the floor because you have giants like Cumberland, Williams and Fredericks around him.

Same people bemoaning him killing us would be killing him for shooting under 25% from 3. He's a small upgrade from Tarin Smith who we feel particularly abused by. Maybe UMKC or Drexel are super disappointed they didn't get Smith in the same way we seem to be about Broome.

That's the way it right now. Kid throws up a deperation three and it's nothing but nylon. That used to be us. It doesn't go in for 12-13 teams.

He shoots 24% from 3 and isn't a great player at all can we leave the Brrome crap out the door?

Great player and winning player are two different things.
