Can Vandy be the new #5?

Today's results:
#12 LSU over #2 Texas
West Virginia over #11 Iowa State
Minnesota over #21 USC
#6 Kentucky over #5 Oklahoma
#19 Ohio State over #8 Maryland
Purdue over #23 Washington
Notre Dame over #22 North Carolina

LSU looked a lot better against Texas than they did against Vandy. But there is still a helter-skelter quality to their game. Texas looked baffled, which is odd for them. I was impressed by Oldacre’s energy and quickness in this game. Those are not adjectives I normally associate with her. But she looks like she may have turned a corner in her conditioning.

Vandy should safely be #5 in polls tomorrow.

My top 15 prediction for tomorrow:
1. UCONN
2. South Carolina
3. UCLA
4. Texas
5. Vanderbilt
6. Michigan
7. Kentucky
8. LSU
9. Louisville
10. TCU
11. Maryland
12. Oklahoma
13. Michigan State
14. Ole Miss
15. Ohio State

So that people understand what he does (and I’ll say this without snark):

  1. It’s important to remember Charlie Creme is a sportswriter who is only creating material for his media outlet.
  2. Bracketology is not used for seeding by the NCAA. At all. It’s as irrelevant to the seeding process as any sports article would be.
  3. The Bracketology appears to be constructed using current composite rankings and conference standings. There was one time a couple years ago St John’s was shown as the Automatic Qualifier (conference champion) rather than UConn because St John’s was undefeated in the Big East at 1-0 and was listed as the conference leader. UConn hadn’t played a single conference game yet. What I’m saying is that some information might be computer generated based on certain criteria (conference standing, win-loss, etc). In other words, irrelevant. Creme isn’t showing a team as a potential seed out of malice or dislike or stupidity but because that’s how the objective criteria fall. There are Boneyarders that can (and have) put together the exact same bracket using the same numbers
  4. Creme has written many articles that describe UConn as a tremendous team, talented, describing great plays by great players but, as is typical of human nature, fans don’t remember the good stuff, only what they see as a slight. And UConn fans aren’t the only ones that think Charlie Creme “hates” them. Heaven forbid a sportswriter not gush over a team like a 14 year old Swiftie! The writer’s job is to report, not be a fan-boy (I’m looking at you, too, Michael Voepel, who is often dismissed as a “hater” by every fan base with a forum)
With you, until the last sentence.

First off, congrats to Shea and team. Midseason Shea is my easy pick for National Coach of the Year.

Looking ahead, Vandy realistically could be #4 when the next poll comes out next week. If #4 Texas loses at #2 South Carolina this week, Vandy likely climbs to #4 and Texas to drop to #5 or #6. The real test for Vanderbilt starts after that as they face a gauntlet of a schedule to finish the season.
