Can Vandy be the new #5?

First off, congrats to Shea and team. Midseason Shea is my easy pick for National Coach of the Year.

Looking ahead, Vandy realistically could be #4 when the next poll comes out next week. If #4 Texas loses at #2 South Carolina this week, Vandy likely climbs to #4 and Texas to drop to #5 or #6. The real test for Vanderbilt starts after that as they face a gauntlet of a schedule to finish the season.

Nice post. My guess is Vandy enters ncaa tourney with 5 losses ranked 10-15.

Still this start is awesome for Shea and Vandy! They have done this largely thru developing players after losing Pierre.

The continuous improvement will keep helping their recruiting effort.

I think 5 losses could be a two seed (5-8) from the SEC or Big 10 this year. They would probably need to at least make the semi-final game of the SEC tournament for their 5th loss.

Hey @CL82, I am not sure if you know anything about sailing but when a sail boat has a lead in a competition, if the trailing boat tacks to a different line of wind, you also tack to get that same wind and keep your lead. If other programs are good, writers would naturally write about them and then compare them to other good programs which UConn was almost always in that group. I am 100% in agreement with @HuskyNan about Charlie. UConn is the bellwether of WCBB (for those confused, please look up the word), and every writer knows even casual fans are aware of what UConn has achieved so there would be constant comparisons to the Huskie program. Many, like you, took and take those comparisons as "slights" which they are NOT; they are merely promoting the game. This forum has a deep a rich history of promoting "conspiracy theory" thinking about what they view as the constant untoward criticisms at this program. Again, this is a complete MYTH. Media outlets do not hate UConn WCBB. In fact, all media loves UConn as it is good for ratings and clicks (internet article baiting). Pro or con articles will elicit much dialogue, and our group almost always views any non-deity wording as a condemnation.

I don't expect my perspective to be received well by many on this forum but it is what I truly believe and what most rationale fans (not fanatics) would understand and respect. Charlie has carved out a niche by being so dedicated to the WCBB game, the intricacies of the weekly polls, NCAA selection committee rules and history of the "Blue Blood Programs". I, for one, truly appreciate his efforts and commitment.

Thank you for your time, now back to all the kvetching.

"I don't expect my perspective to be received well by many on this forum". You might have more agreement here if we better understood your abstract analogies.

For as an astute fan base as this forum is supposed to have, we seem to have “regular brain cramps” on how the process is supposed to operate.
1. Charlie Crème does not CONTROL anything, he merely tries to replicate what the committee will do based on their rules and past seedings. Charlie’s bracket is to show “current results” with the committee rules applied. Stop blaming him. Jeesh
2. Has ANYONE looked at Shea’s OOC? Yes, she just had 1 great win over LSU but all her other wins were mediocre to pathetic. While the dopey voters may very well vote her team far higher than they should, the committee will see right through that schedule and seed her as a 3 or 4 seed ranking (9-16) which is where she belongs until she beats a team like Kentucky, Oklahoma or Ole Miss. Can she do that? Of course she can but she needs to before we get too excited.
Hold on! Excited is what this forum is all about. For brain cramps Omega 3s or B vitamins can help but not sure that will fix the usual enthusiastic opinions which keep the interest level high on the Boneyard.

So you believe in the ESPN conspiracy theory and that Creme and any other writer that does not hail UConn as great for every week and every player as an All-American?

My gosh, just yesterday, ESPN published the 1st and 2nd team AA's and Azzi was on the second team (Heaven forbid!). Is that direct enough for you?

Vandy has a great board that's pretty active, worth checking out for any Vandy fans
I read the Vandy Board weekly and until Shea got there it was very poorly active. Very few posters in the past, but since Shea has invigorated the program the number of posters has increased. See what winning does?
