He's going to pressure them out.....like the OP said they don't have enough scholarships for everyone that is coming in next year. Along with the chance they may get Bolden. You can't have 20 scholarship players. Hence my point.....he is going to push people out. My post had nothing to do with him putting in all his players to get a look. Whatever that's fine with me, but it doesn't change the fact that some people are going to have to leave the Kentucky program that are not ready to leave.

If he wanted to push people out then he is doing a crappy job. Let's say Skal goes to the combine and they tell him he isn't ready. Could Cal really look him in the face and tell him to leave?? Why would Skal listen to him? Doesn't make any sense.

His wingspan is .5 inch longer than Boat. I'm amazed that some are talking about Ulis being a lottery pick. He's 5'8 with a slight build, not much of a jumpshot and is not a freak athlete.

I don't think anyone said Ulis was a lottery pick. I could be wrong, but I don't remember seeing it.

Yes and yes. Cal has that in him. And he could probably get one of his connects (WWW?) to tell the kid to go and maybe even sign him.

I know that's cynical, but I would not be surprised at all if Cal did something like that. Not saying he will, just that I wouldn't be surprised.

I really don't want to get in a back and forth, but Cal has already gone on record saying Ullis should have played over the Harrison's last year in the finals and it just so happens that both of them declared....one went undrafted and the other went in the second round. Also Dakari Johnson went in the second round. Why would these guys have left to go undrafted or not have guaranteed contracts. I get that they didn't have the same opportunity the guys this year have.....but if you don't think Cal gave them a nudge you are kidding yourself.

Also lets make an assumption that Skal, Briscoe and Lee all come back.....and they don't have enough scholarships to go around. Who's getting the boot? The freshmen coming in? No. It's an upperclassmen who probably doesn't want to leave Kentucky or is not ready yet. That is my only point. I have nothing wrong with him saying everyone is declaring....my issue is with him pushing people out that are not ready.

Again, Isaiah Thomas is built like a brick house and is a freak athlete, that's almost like comparing Ulis to Nate Robinson.

I'm not comparing them as players, I'm saying its a similar situation. Thomas left after his junior year because he figured there wasn't much he could do to elevate his stock due to his size(and while muscular he was not nearly as jacked coming right out UDubb), with Ulis its the same deal. Also, lets keep it real, nobody thought Thomas would be this good, not saying Ulis is gonna be nice in the league but we have no idea whether he'll be able to stick or not.

If we did, NBA GMs would appear a lot smarter than they actually do. There's no exact science, as proved year after year.

Okay I hear your point about if his game is mature enough why not leave now because you aren't getting any taller. I had no idea Thomas would be this good and I guess I could see a bench role for Ulis in the league it's just articles are being written about him being a lottery pick and that seems crazy to me. As we've seen with Shabazz it's really hard to make it as a small and not a freak athlete point guard. JJ Barea is another guy who surprised me but he's a little taller and stronger.

I'm not saying he couldn't, but I can imagine it would be really tough for somebody (especially for a poor kid from overseas) to ignore a big time agent/power broker's advice and/or money.

I agree they shouldn't get compared: Ulis can dribble a basketball.

Ulis is a better basketball player than Nate Robinson, the latter being a better athlete.

There are a few things going on here.

First, how do you have a roster with X amount of players with Y amount of eligibility remaining ... And then you take LOIs for five more. And that equals more than 13 - the Maximum. In Football, there appears to be an accounting that happens. At the point you have Signing Day ... The Programs with overage push kids to greyshirt. Nudge non productive kids along. Suggest Preps to others.

My point - you don't get to have more scholarships executed than the NCAA allows for your sport. See all the LOIs for Kentucky basketball executed? I think the NCAA is strict on this. Though, I'm not VP of Compliance.

Further ... Labissiere and others of that ilk can be grabbed by NBA thinking they might develop them better than Calipari. That doesn't go for small guards & non shooters. Ever.

I don't mind Calipari pushing kids to the NBA process. I do mind not developing marginal players like the Harrison's or Johnson. They would have done better elsewhere.
