Caitlin Clark Scoring Record Watch

It’s going to take a season-low night from Clark to keep Iowa out of the Final Four IMO. The defense has improved and the offense is either as good or almost as good as last year. Right now they look poised to enter the NCAAs with one loss, maybe two. If they go 3-0 against Ohio State and Indiana from here I think they’re in play for the overall #1 seed unless SC wins out.

Dunno. Maybe.

I imagine that a lot of her advertising deals would still carry on while she's in the W. And then she'd also get to play overseas next winter and bring in the big $$ there.

Also, not everyone wants to spend extra time in school.
Yeah, I'm no expert on the financials, myself. I just took a peak at the WNBA salaries and the top players there make about as much as a lead software developer - which is decidedly less than she and some other top college players are pulling in, right now.

But, you're right. Who knows what factors weigh the most with her and others.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

4. Clark, Iowa (2020-24): 3,351
3. Stiles, MoSt (1997-2001): 3,393 ==> 42 pts ==> 1-2 games
2. Mitchell, OhioSt (2014-18): 3,402 ==> 51 pts ==> 2-3 games
1. Plum, Wash (2013-17): 3,527 ==> 176 pts ==> 5-7 games

Iowa has 10 RS games left

Based on her season average, most likely game to set the record is the 6th, at home vs Michigan.

KClark straight baller. She will break all the scoring records but she will fall short on winning a championship. She's the golden gurl this year so they will have a cake wall to the Final 4 but lose to a really good defense in the F4.

That’s my prediction too but Iowa is as dangerous as anybody if they get that far because Clark can absolutely will them to two wins.

she has another year of eligibility, right? what's the incentive to not use it? i'd think she's a lot more popular and capable of generating FAR more NIL $$$ being a mega-star in college than playing in the WNBA.
I'm pulling for her to stay the extra year in IOWA. She is the reason all of those arenas in the B10 are selling out when she plays in them. I saw her rookie card on EBAY at 30K. I hope she becomes the first woman sports figure to reach 1 billion in net worth.

I know she cannot make it playing basketball just like Jordan didn't. It was the endorsements that he that helped him to become a billionaire.

I think she should take her time and everything she puts her name on, on the back of, in appearances and in being a basketball player or speaking should command a huge price tag.

If she's the reason for the sellout of arenas, I think she should ask for some of the gate receipts. Certainly, in the WNBA if she raises the awareness, ticket sales, viewership, etc why should she not be highly compensated? It was Jordan and Bird that made the NBA what it was back in the day and both were well paid. Before those two, the NBA finals were boring at best.

There is no other basketball player college or pro right now that is bigger than Catlin Clark.

.-.
I think you are leaving out Magic. It was the Magic-Bird rivalry that transformed the League. Jordan came along later.
Yes you are correct. I now remember it was Johnson and Bird who put the NCAA tournament on the map, as before they played, it was boring at best....lol Thanks for reminding me!!!

38 pts today vs Nebraska

4. Clark, Iowa (2020-24): 3,389
3. Stiles, MoSt (1997-2001): 3,393 ==> 4 pts ==> 1 game
2. Mitchell, OhioSt (2014-18): 3,402 ==> 13 pts ==> 1 game
1. Plum, Wash (2013-17): 3,527 ==> 138 pts ==> 4-5 games

Iowa has 9 RS games left

Based on her season average, most likely game to set the record is the 5th, at home vs Michigan on Thursday 2/15.
Though the 4th game at Nebraska on 2/11 is possible.

Davis at 3664 and Maravich at 3667 are the top 2 in all of D1 college basketball

She needs 278 to tie Pete. Or a 30.9 average in her 9 remaining RS games. If not then, surely in the post-season.

If my math is right, her season average is now up to an even 32 ppg.

She's also on pace to overtake Maravich's 3,667 points in 9 or 10 games. Possibly in the regular season finale.

.-.
I'm hoping she stays another year at IOWA. Too, I'm hoping she negotiates deals that would certainly surpass what she would be to get as a pro...

Interest in the WNBA will certainly go up when she joins the league, and she should be well compensated for that (ticket sales, tv revenue, popularity of the WNBA, merchandise sales, etc.) . Could she become the first woman in WNBA history to get a million salary per year plus a percentage of tix sales, and TV revenue?

I've said before, I WANT TO BE HER AGENT!!!!

35 more tonight

2. Clark, Iowa (2020-24): 3,424
1. Plum, Wash (2013-17): 3,527 ==> 103 pts ==> 4-5 games

Iowa has 8 RS games left

Based on her season average, most likely game to set the record is now the 4th game at Nebraska on 2/11.

======================================
Additionally

4. Clark 3424
3. Lynette Woodward Kansas (AIAW), 3649 ==> 225 ==> 7-8 games
2. Antoine Davis Detroit Mercy 3664 ==> 240 ==> 8-9 games
1. Maravich LSU 3667 ==> 243 ==> 8-9 games

She should pass Maravich in the season finale or B10 Tourney quarterfinals

This is a bit of a long shot, but it’s not out of the question she hits 4,000 this year.

If she averages 34 a game and makes it to the Big Ten title game and the NCAA title game, she’ll add 578 points which catapults her to 4,002. What’s even more remarkable is that she’s going to get close while having missed 7-8 games due to covid her freshman and sophomore year. Add those in and she easily clears 4000 this year.

If she sticks around a 5th year, she’ll probably pass 5,000.

TN-Gamecock, I'm with you on your points about Caitlin Clark, but I must speak up on behalf of my fellow older basketball fans to say I remember watching a whole lot of exciting, dramatic and well-played NBA finals before Bird/Magic and later on Jordan.

Recency bias takes on a lot of disguises, but it seems you've fallen prey. All those wonderful NBA finals featuring Pettit, Russell, Havlicek, Chamberlain, West, Jabbar, Walton, and so many more great players, coaches and teams... they were all boring? Hmmm, my excitement barometer must've been off kilter.

Okay, back to Caitlin and her remarkable pursuit of records (and titles). Thanks, Vowelguy, for your efforts!

I’m more interested in how many butts she puts in Big Ten opponents seats this year. The total attendance record for a year is gonna fall ( not home attendance)

Partially in response to your request:

Home Avg. Attendance - Current Record Holder: Tennessee-16,565 (1999) (Tamika Catchings/Chamique Holdsclaw)
South Carolina is currently averaging 15,913, with 8 more home games (inc. NCAA T)
Would need to average 17,300 or more the rest of the way to break this mark

All Games Avg. Attendance - Current Record Holder: Tennessee-12,164 (1999)
Iowa is currently averaging 12,474, which is expected to climb over 13,000 as regular season progresses

All Games Total Attendance - Current Record Holder: Tennessee-445,925 (2008) (Candace Parker)
Iowa is currently at 274,423 and South Carolina is at 204,544. Iowa will need 4-5 post-season games (Big
Ten Tourney and 2 home NCAA games) to pass. South Carolina could potentially pass with deep run
in conference and NCAA tourneys.

True Road Games Avg. Attendance* - current Record Holder: Baylor-8,424 (2012) (Brittney Griner)
Iowa is currently at 11,983, with 4 announced sell-outs to go. South Carolina currently at 6,212 and LSU
currently at 7,182. If Iowa's actual remaining road attendance equals capacities, will climb to 13,562.
TV Viewership and road game attendance might be the two best measures of the Caitlin Clark effect.

*Open to correction, but believed to be accurate after checking potential Tennessee, UConn, Baylor,
South Carolina & Notre Dame contenders.

Thank you for this great work. It bears up what I suspected.

I don't think we can average 17,300 on our home games. UConn is sold out at 18.000 and Tennessee might sell out. The remainder? Meh, probably more like 14,000.

I think Big Ten fans are a bit more excited about seeing Caitlin perform on their home court than SEC fans are to see South Carolina coming to town - again.

Good Job Big Ten.

She's been greatly overshadowed by Clark, but Dyaisha Fair of Syracuse just climbed to 5th on the all-time scoring list. She's now at 3,129 and is on pace to pass Griner for 4th in the regular season finale.

Her inclusion on the all-time list should be accompanied by a large asterisk, as Fair is on her "covid" year and will have played 5 full seasons.

Covid year or not, Fair's got to be one of the least appreciated players in the nation. Plus 3,000 points? Wow! Thanks, Plebe.

As Caitlin did few weeks ago, she recently passed Maya, Chamique Holdsclaw and Elena Delle Donne, as well as Ashley Joens. That's pretty good company, and all far better known.

Lord have mercy, if you said this on our boards, the board would go nuts calling you everything but a Gamecock fan. But what you speak about is true. Caitlin a bigger draw than Carolina women's basketball team.

I'm pulling big for Caitlin to do well. I've said it before but I'll say it again, I hope she becomes the 1st woman in sports to reach the Billion Dollar(s) mark with endorsements (like Mike Jordan and Tiger Woods).

Perhaps Caitlin and Tiger? Glad to see the edits. Thanks!:)
OMG...you called me out!!!! You could've been more gracious and sent me a private message to let me know, my spell check is not working (me)...spell check did not catch those. Oh well, even though it will not be reciprocated, thanks for discreetly telling me.:rolleyes:

Far better known than Caitlin?

The two most famous women in America right now have to be Taylor Swift and Caitlin Clark.

Caitlin Clark is the most famous name in College Basketball, both men's and women's.

And I'm guessing Caitlin is far behind Taylor these days...

Yup, I was sloppy with my antecedent there. Of course, I meant Ayaisha Fair in comparison with those others, but no worries. I appreciate that you clarified it for me.
