I look forward to IOWA women's basketball team playing and afterwards coming here to see the updates that Vowel makes.
TN-Gamecock, I'm with you on your points about Caitlin Clark, but I must speak up on behalf of my fellow older basketball fans to say I remember watching a whole lot of exciting, dramatic and well-played NBA finals before Bird/Magic and later on Jordan. It was Jordan and Bird that made the NBA what it was back in the day and both were well paid. Before those two, the NBA finals were boring at best.
I’m more interested in how many butts she puts in Big Ten opponents seats this year. The total attendance record for a year is gonna fall ( not home attendance)
Thank you for this great work. It bears up what I suspected.Partially in response to your request:
Home Avg. Attendance - Current Record Holder: Tennessee-16,565 (1999) (Tamika Catchings/Chamique Holdsclaw)
South Carolina is currently averaging 15,913, with 8 more home games (inc. NCAA T)
Would need to average 17,300 or more the rest of the way to break this mark
All Games Avg. Attendance - Current Record Holder: Tennessee-12,164 (1999)
Iowa is currently averaging 12,474, which is expected to climb over 13,000 as regular season progresses
All Games Total Attendance - Current Record Holder: Tennessee-445,925 (2008) (Candace Parker)
Iowa is currently at 274,423 and South Carolina is at 204,544. Iowa will need 4-5 post-season games (Big
Ten Tourney and 2 home NCAA games) to pass. South Carolina could potentially pass with deep run
in conference and NCAA tourneys.
True Road Games Avg. Attendance* - current Record Holder: Baylor-8,424 (2012) (Brittney Griner)
Iowa is currently at 11,983, with 4 announced sell-outs to go. South Carolina currently at 6,212 and LSU
currently at 7,182. If Iowa's actual remaining road attendance equals capacities, will climb to 13,562.
TV Viewership and road game attendance might be the two best measures of the Caitlin Clark effect.
*Open to correction, but believed to be accurate after checking potential Tennessee, UConn, Baylor,
South Carolina & Notre Dame contenders.
Covid year or not, Fair's got to be one of the least appreciated players in the nation. Plus 3,000 points? Wow! Thanks, Plebe. She's been greatly overshadowed by Clark, but Dyaisha Fair of Syracuse just climbed to 5th on the all-time scoring list. She's now at 3,129 and is on pace to pass Griner for 4th in the regular season finale.
Her inclusion on the all-time list should be accompanied by a large asterisk, as Fair is on her "covid" year and will have played 5 full seasons.
Lord have mercy, if you said this on our boards, the board would go nuts calling you everything but a Gamecock fan. But what you speak about is true. Caitlin a bigger draw than Carolina women's basketball team.I think Big Ten fans are a bit more excited about seeing Caitlin perform on their home court than SEC fans are to see South Carolina coming to town - again.
Good Job Big Ten.
Catlin? Tyger?Lord have mercy, if you said this on our boards, the board would go nuts calling you everything but a Gamecock fan. But what you speak about is true. Catlin is a bigger draw than Carolina women's basketball.
I'm pulling big for Catlin to do well. I've said it before but I'll say it again, I hope she becomes the 1st woman in sports to reach the Billion Dollar(s) mark with endorsements (with Mike Jordan and Tyger Woods).
?Catlin? Tyger?
Perhaps Caitlin and Tiger? Glad to see the edits. Thanks!
OMG...you called me out!!!! You could've been more gracious and sent me a private message to let me know, my spell check is not working (me)...spell check did not catch those. Oh well, even though it will not be reciprocated, thanks for discreetly telling me.Perhaps Caitlin and Tiger? Glad to see the edits. Thanks!
Far better known than Caitlin? As Caitlin did few weeks ago, she recently passed Maya, Chamique Holdsclaw and Elena Delle Donne, as well as Ashley Joens. That's pretty good company, and all far better known.
And I'm guessing Caitlin is far behind Taylor these days...Far better known than Caitlin?
The two most famous women in America right now have to be Taylor Swift and Caitlin Clark.
Caitlin Clark is the most famous name in College Basketball, both men's and women's.
That's classy.Plum 'excited' to see Clark break scoring record
NCAA all-time scoring leader Kelsey Plum said she is "grateful to pass that baton" to Iowa's Caitlin Clark.www.espn.com

2. Clark, Iowa (2020-24): 3,424
1. Plum, Wash (2013-17): 3,527 ==> 103 pts ==> 4-5 games

Based on her season average, most likely game to set the record is now the 4th game at Nebraska on 2/11.

She should pass Maravich in the season finale or B10 Tourney quarterfinals
She and IOWA are playing at College Park, which is most likely the reason she is on the front page. The Washington Post had both an article and a column on Clark on the front page of the sports section this morning. I haven’t seen that for a NCAAW player in some time.
Thanks, Vowelguy.38 more tonight
