2026 Recruiting: Caden Pierce (Transfer) potential interest

Our 9 man rostation is Demary, Solo, Mullins, AK, Tarris, Malachi, Reibe, Stewart, Ross.

With Braylon and Tarris out and with them on minutes restrictions today Koroma has been a part of our rotation. At full strength Adams would be fighting it out to be our 11th man.
Lol so Furphy is better than Adams?

I guess I have to spell it out. I said Adams would be our 10th man and in response you said Adam’s would be better than our 10th man. That means you think he’d be ahead of either 1) smith 2) Reibe 3) Ross or 4) stew. Even though Mullins came off the bench today he will soon be starting over stew so which of those 4 guys would Adams beat out to be 9th man? The answer is none of them and Adams would be our 10th man.

Actually I was responding to superjohn

I think Adams would be a little better than our 10th man, lol. He is putting up points. Do we need him, no, but let's be honest about his play.
I posted that Adams would be our 10th man and This was your reply that started this nonsense

Yes and I was responding to Superjohns comment that Adams would be fighting to be our 11th man, which is ridiculous
He said that afterwards but You still haven’t said who Adams would beat out to be 9th man

He would be fighting it out with Furphy to be our 11th man. I don't know who is better because of their situations but I liked Furphy's game more from what I watched before college.

You really outa look up how bad Adams is shooting for Maryland, I’m not convinced at all that he’s better than Furphy right now, if Furphy was granted the same role in those circumstances.
Seriously, Furphy would not be putting up 15, 17, 20pts. Have you seen how long Adams arms are which make him a threat for steals, rebounding, and overall defense. Also makes his free throws. The kid always gives 100%. Adams was a 5 star recruit. Im just being realistic, Furphy couldn't touch him

Lol. So Adams was a 5 star recruit because he stinks? What star was Furphy? Im not basing it off of that either, watch the game and you will see Adams is going to be a special player once his shot drops. Furphy might be better just tells me you just want to hate on someone who left UConn.

Right now, maybe no one, but he will be better than Ross or Stewart before his career is over.

Adams is an interesting player to watch. He has some intangibles that I love but he’s so thin and out of control.

His negative A/TO ratio and shooting percentages are horrendous. He just takes bad shots a lot, pushes the ball when he shouldn’t and gambles on both sides of the ball. He also draws a ton of fouls and plays hard on both ends. Hes also super quick. He will be good eventually.

He might win you games but he will also lose you games

I was never high on Adams, I'm not high on County either for next season. I didn't care at all that he left, it made all the sense in the world for him and for UConn because we got a much better guard than him for this season. I also don't care he's putting up numbers on low efficiency for a terrible team other than I'm glad it's working out for him.. By the way he has the same wingspan as Furphy, neither are + athletes at this level and they need to get stronger. There's no way Adams would've played as well in FIBA against international competition as Furphy did.

So we will see how their careers pan out and I hope Furphy can be good for us down the road but there is no way in heck he is better than Adams. You think Furphy would have been a 5 star recruit if he went to high school here. Im just realistic, I hope Furphy can ball, but to say he is or might be better than Adams is just laughable

He is a freshman and is being asked to do alot. He will get his shot down. At least you can see the tangibles.

Cool.

It’s not just about hitting his shots. It’s about taking good ones. Right now he has no accountability for his bad shot taking, and that can form bad habits.

In some ways he needs a coach like Hurley who will teach him what a high percentage shot is and how to get it. In others he will put up stats in the system he is in. He wouldn’t get near the touches at UConn.

Edit: in regards to Furphy vs Adams. Furphy is a better system player for UConn. Adams has more upside.

The team stinks. The playing time will help him down the road. He seems like a smart, good kid, he will learn. I definitely agree he wouldn't get many touches here

They’ve been wrong on 4 and 5 stars in the past you do know right? He’s a pretty capable player but he can’t shoot and can be out of control. Furphy isn’t playing at a school with Ball, Mullins, Smith and other very good players ahead of him so we won’t know for a while who he is. I think people root for the kid but it seems you don’t like the facts. He’s all potential for now on rebuilding roster for MD and his inconsistency is accepted there. If he was coming in throwing those numbers around for Hurley he’d be playing maybe 2-3 more minutes than Furphy, maybe.

I hope he gets better and cuts down on his mistakes and starts making more shots, we will see.

Darius is playing well
He is scoring well but his shooting numbers are terrible. 14ppg on 34.6% shooting overall and only 26.8% from 3 on over 5 attempts per game. I think Maryland probably needs him to try and score the ball which is why they have him shooting so much despite his lack of efficiency. He did just have his best game of the season against Alabama (20 points on 7/17, 5/7 from 3.)

Definitely one of those situations where it worked out better for both parties. He likely wouldn't have been able to contribute much in our rotation, but he can get minutes and develop at Maryland. I honestly wouldn't be shocked to see him portal out if he gets his overall fg% to around 40% and is still averaging a similar ppg by the end of the year.

Kind of random, but he had 19 points against Mount Saint Mary's in 39 minutes... Shot 21 free throws in that game (made 17.) Had 4 total field goal attempts. I'm not sure I've seen someone take over 5x as many FTs as FGs in a game before, lol. He must've been blowing past his defender and getting to the rim at will, but struggled to finish through contact or something.

I can't believe there's two pages of comments about a kid shooting 34% from the field on here. Wasn't good enough for UConn. Next.
Even more than the shooting, which can improve with confidence, is his lack of point guard instincts/skills. Just 11 assists and 17 turnovers in 8 games. So the thought him being a versatile 1-2-3 combo in the Castle mode is pretty much a no. Doesn’t look like a natural fit at any of those positions. At his size, he can fill a role - but he doesn’t look like a primary anything. Maybe he’ll be a scoring wing in time. But the thought of him transferring because we brought in Demary and Smith to play point guard doesn’t really hold water. He wasn’t ever going to be a point guard.

As an aside, Nowell is also not displaying any passing instincts during his playing time at VCU, and Mahaney is limited (2.9 assists) at a lower level. Diggins showed very little at UMass, and Floyd doesn’t show any at Providence. The sophisticated offense we run needs passers. Ideally some triple threats - guys who can shoot, drive or pass. We were at our best with the Newton-Spencer-Castle perimeter. We can be good with a Newton-Hawkins-Jackson lineup with one non-shooter looking to pass and/or one non-passer looking to score. (Ball is the latter with our current lineup - Joey C filled that role off the bench too). But they need to be really good at the one thing they specialize in, or our offense spins its wheels. And we can’t just assume that people will learn to be good passers in our system.

His 3% is better than Solo….
