BYU Scouting Report

What are the chances he plays Saturday? That’s all we’re wondering tbh.
If he were playing for an SEC school? 100%. But BYU? I doubt he plays. A DUI is a DUI. Hell, some BYU kid got suspended for having sex a couple years ago. LOL

I read some BYU kid got suspended for an entire season due to a DUI charge.

Considering he sat out their last game to heal, it wouldn't exactly hurt their season to sit him for the UConn game as part of a suspension. If they lose they did so without one of their starters, if they win, they look even better. Probably depends a lot on if it was illegal drug/alcohol related.

If he's out, I am curious who starts in place of him. A three guard lineup with Wright/Saunders/Baker with Dybansta/Keita would be really small but quick against UConn. It would force Karaban to defend either Dybansta or one of the guards. Considering BYU plays like an NBA team that goes after mismatch over and over until the other team adjusts, that will be interesting to see.

Of course it leaves them exploitable inside. Keita is big, and athletic but Reed should make him look small if their height/weights are close to accurate. Karaban being on the perimeter negates a big chance to double the post with Dybansta also if BYU is in that small lineup (if Dybansta isn't on Karaban, he should be able to shoot over any of the guards).

He wasn’t smart enough like Bouknight to just flee the scene. That alleged BYU education is meaningless.

The Baker lineup was horrible against Delaware. IF he's out (sounds like he's with the team in Boston now, but no word on his status yet), I could see them going with Mrus or Diomande, but maybe they start Baker and just play the other 2 more than they have in the past.

Yeah, As bad as Baker was against Delaware, the bench wasn't particularly good overall either. Mrus has been a dud so far this year and Diomande has been hit or miss. Offensively at least. They do provide a bit more on defense, especially Diomande (from the little I saw). They have a strong starting five but there depth is questionnable if called on to replace a starter. Decent role players off the bench but I'm not sure I'd want to start any of the three long term.

I've seen random BYU fan speculation that it was a DUI involving pain meds for his achilles. No clue on the truthfulness of that. Still a DUI either way but it wouldn't be against BYU's code if it were prescribed.
Pain meds for Achilles tendonitis don't help much and simply mask underlying issues. Moreover, the typical meds for this purpose-- NSAIDs or something stronger like Voltaren-- don't cause sedation or lack of alertness. If anything, one could have an allergic response to the Voltaren, but this would usually involve breathing issues, hives, etc.

Even if it was painkillers, then his effectiveness for the game would be lessened. To have that big of a reaction means he is still taking a good dosage two days before the game. I don't think he will be that effective if he plays, especially trying to guard Solo.

Achilies injuries will reduce his explosiveness and the ability to stay in front of his guy on defense. You also have the mind game of it getting worse if you plant the wrong way.

Pain meds makes the most sense given the timeline of the arrest. It was 11:45 AM and he was supposedly on his way to the flight to Boston when he was hit and arrested
If by pain meds you also include cannabis, then yea, I agree with you that it's most likely pain meds.

A ton of copium speculation on the BYU fan boards about pain meds, sleep meds he took for the flight, etc.

Unlikely he'd be on opioids for tendon pain, but it's possible, I guess. (Opioids would be most likely to cause DUI level impairment)

BYU "investigating". I'm sure it will be a thorough investigation of at least 2-3 weeks; of course, he'll be able to play in the meantime.

Not sure how any cop would know a driver is taking pain med unless the driver tells the cop. You can't say no to a breathalyzer without an automatic license suspension. Outside of that, keep your mouth shut.

Regardless, he'll be playing tomorrow.

Thanks. I was thinking about what shirt I should wear to the game tomorrow. Now I know which one.

I started wearing the Adama home white jersey after they won in '23 and continued to wear it to any neutral/away game I attend. I will continue with this for foreseable future, I think.

Uh oh think Davis may be in trouble with more than a sore Achilles :

There is quite a lot to unpack in this story: He crashed his car, police found probable cause for DUI, placed under arrest for DUI, vehicle was impounded, Provo police doing further investigation. Given all that I doubt he is getting on a plane to Boston any time soon.

Sounds like he's already in Boston. But also to be clear he didn't crash his car, someone ran a red light and hit him

I’ve seen conflicting reports on that from different news outlets. Not calling you out, just saying that I’m not sure even that’s been sorted out

Just reading the news article. How is he in Boston today?
