You can just admit beating the number 7 team in the country is a great win and can’t be spun any other way.

Knowing they have the toughest schedule in the country coming up and betting they’ll lose at some point is disingenuous. I’m sure you can’t wait until they loss a game so you can somehow spin that into a justification for your terrible take.
This is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the Huskies schedule. This is a chance to beat P4 programs. I really don't get excited about Seton Hall, Xavier, DePaul and even GTown. Just beat the P4s.

The slowdown is a legit criticism, especially since our offense naturally extends our sets deep into the shot clock. Burning 15 seconds doing nothing just reduces the chance that we get a decent shot off. Just run our sets and try to be more prudent with shot selection.

On the other hand, it does appear that Demary can be the end of shot clock guy that we've been missing. He was able to create a shot (and make) for himself twice down the stretch, and it ended up being the difference between a win with some flaws and a maddening loss.

Do you remember Gtown last year? This is the hoops equivalent of playing prevent defense in football. It's basically an invitation to come back.

Yeah, it felt like a FB prevent defense for sure, but I think it started with a couple turnovers and I was shouting "can we get a shot off!!?!?" so much I am still hoarse. I think that got us into a malaise.

Thing is when Mullins comes back we go from 3/2 to 2/3 in terms of front court/backcourt with Mullins ostensibly more guard than wing. He just happens to be 6'6" or 6'7" which is perfect wing height. He is our Steph Curry in terms of 3pt range and can drive and go left handed. He is qualitatively better as a complete player for his position than either Stewart or Ross so he will start but his height at the guard spot makes him versatile in defense guarding a shorter guard or a same height wing.

Now as was said about BYU, I think @RuffRuff got it: When Keita went out their lineup changed to smaller ball with notable less quality defenders didn't capitalize on this until the second half. Something clicked in BYU players because it wasn't like Keita was out with 10 left in the second, he was out with like 7 min left in the first half. Maybe just BYU got down losing him and shook it off later.

Also @HW611 read the room. We all make some kind of belief based post and sometimes it gets upped and other times it gets smacked. Move on. I posted about Koroma playing even a few minutes vs BYU to spell AK and generally speaking I got shut down. Do I keep posting about his stats vs us last year? No, it's just move on. Ross is not starting in this foreseeable season. Not before Mullins is back, and definitely not after.

On Ross/Mullins and your point of Mullins being more of a 2G. I can see a VERY interesting lineup when Mullins is back by putting him at the 2 and Ross at the 3. Alongside Demary, you'd easily have your best defensive lineup 1-3.

If you DVRd the game watch Bakers 3. He took 3 1/2 steps before shooting it, has to be called!
Real time, I thought he took a bunch of extra steps. I replayed it and wondered how the refs didn't catch that. It was pretty obvious. Then again, they didn't seem to see any of the off arm push-offs throughout most of that second half.

With that said, the Huskies played really tight in that ladder part of the second half. I know part of it was due to getting into foul trouble where they couldn't be too aggressive on defense, but their offense looked slow and ineffective, no excuses for that.

THIS! He pushed off on almost every shot. I was yelling at the screen.

Bad gameplan - we slowed it down, they then pressed to counter, it threw us for a loop, walked us right into a very different pace that played into what they wanted to do and us out of. Not sure why Hurley plays not to lose at that point. We see it flop time and time again.
Why are you questioning and acting like you know more than the coaching staff?

Kennard got cited with a DUI and possession of marijuana in the car. Safe to say his career at BYU is over.

They were looking for him. He wasn't getting good position the last 10 minutes.
I also think most of the team doesn't do a good job with entry passes. Tarris also needs to make himself available better. Probably some of both was the issue but I noticed a lot of the former.

Would agree on that. He needs to flash and be in sync with the entry passer more consistently, also have some intention on what he wants to do faster so that the double team doesn't collapse. He had one great move around BYU where he spun right on entry underneath for an easy layup. Need more of that.

There’s just opinion here and I get all the thoughts but there’s more to basketball at this level than “that guy was really good tonight so he deserves to start or get a shot”…. It’s chemistry, strategy from the staff. My guess is he’s played a little better than Stew but not enough and they like his offense now off the bench so it will stay there. He had 10 pts and 1 assist and didn’t get a rebound while fouling out (more than likely sending people to the foul line) in 12 minutes. That’s not someone stating “I deserve to start on this team” sorry. It’s an “I’m getting better and need to fix some things” kinda game.

You are obsessed with being right, not about Ross in particular. These 2 are battling to see who gets more time off the bench when Mullins games back and they will continue to do that, it’s good for the team we need them both to improve.

In the meantime this is not our biggest concern. Our biggest concern is to get last years version of Solo Ball back soon and not even worry about what we had hoped to be improvement. Need him to make wide open looks, pass the ball better and defend like he did at least that last 10 games of last year. So far he’s been disappointment although driving to the hoop has improved. Need more!
A thing to consider, and this thing is often not spoken of enough in these sorts of discussion, is what happens in practice the rest of the week.

Please, everyone, face these facts: The staff knows more than we do. The staff sees these guys in practice every day. The staff evaluates the players against what they see in practice and how the players are responding th their coaching.

Therefore, the staff decides who gets which starting slots based on....

Whatever ideas or thoughts any of us have in that vein are largely uninformed.

Crack a beer, clutch your TV remote tightly, and hang on, while you enjoy the ride.

Post your thoughts, but when you (we?) get this many pages into whether we are excellent, dominant, very good, good, decent.... It really gets a bit tedious for those of us who are not as emotionally involved in your patter.

You find it tedious. I find it all very entertaining. HW is unable to help himself and people responding to him have the same problem. It's not like what any of us say is going to influence any outcome for the team. So why is this happening?

It has to be imbedded in our DNA. This process of needing to isolate anything we perceive as different or abnormal within our group is natural. Any pack animal does it. Tribalism is just the human name applied to our "pack". This forum is the "tribe" of UConn mens bb. Those that respond to HW are carrying out this role in the abstract world as opposed to the concrete world. Something uncomfortable elicits a reaction in us. It's in our interest to decide if we need to respond to it and if so how much and what type of effort we should put into it.

I'm reacting differently than you but we are both reacting. We differ how this is impacting us. We are similar in that we've expressed ourselves about what's happening and most likely won't do so incessantly.

Now if all this back and forth is helping @temery get some economic benefit, then I might change my position and encourage it to continue.

I simply said let’s see how the team does over the next 5 games, our toughest stretch of the season. I didn’t mention winning or losing so not sure where that came from. For instance, we easily handled MSU and I saw that they beat Kentucky soundly a few days ago. Last night Duke won over Kansas. I am curious to see how we fair against our
“competition”. Nothing more it less

Feels like everyone on here finds someone they like to target and spar with - I know my bro Inyatkin loves to come at me, like I've been imprinted on his targeting. Warms me on the inside.
