Butler Post Game Thread

This is the epitome of being a brat. Have some damn class man. I don’t care how right you think you are you don’t say stuff like this.

Did Coach K, Pop, etc. ever say stuff like this?

Man I’m a Michigan fan and Jim Harbaugh went to a Super Bowl in the NFL and never got remotely to saying stuff like this when Big Ten refs were bending him over when he first got there.
A fan of 2 different college teams smdh. Bandwagon UConn basketball and Michigan football fan.

Everyone in the spread thread was predicting this game would be way closer than it should be, and now that it was close, it’s somehow a disaster. We showed great resolve in this game. Matta is a good coach and once again, a team was playing their hearts out to beat the defending champs.
We’re not as good as we were the last 2 years. As soon as we stop holding this group to those standards we’ll stop the crashouts. We’re probably not a top 8 team even with Liam. The team is limited. You know it happens once every couple of championships. Enjoy the ride and let’s get hot and catch some magic when it matters.

Hurley needs to live in the moment. Stop talking about going for three straight. Stop talking about being the best coach in the sport. Stop talking about the refs giving respect to the defending back-to-back champs. And stop talking about looking at your championship rings after losses. Focus on getting this very flawed team into the NCAA tournament and in a position where maybe they can make some noise.

This doesn't look like a team that is well coached right now. Do I think Danny is a great coach? Of course I do. But he's not showing it right now. He needs to focus on fixing this and forget about the past.

The national media and the rest of college basketball would love to bury us. They'll forget about our back-to-back championships in no time. Focus on the present.

It pains me to say this given my disdain for Pitino, but St. John's has quietly become the classic of the Big East this year. I didn't think he could do it but he has.

Liam is our best player and possible lottery pick, get a clue, he makes a huge difference.
Indeed! With a healthy Liam, we are 16-3, 8-0 in conference, riding a 12-game win streak and probably ranked in the Top 5. Liam had become the engine of this team; it's offense rotated around him; its defense drew its energy from him. Everything changes when he returns.

lol for football. It must be mad tiring reaching for stupid things to try and discredit someone’s lifelong fandom.

Yea no. They’re a classic first weekend upset team. They can’t shoot. Some team from the sunbelt is gonna get hot, zone them up and beat em.

Talking Big East, not NCAA Tournament.

Gotcha. You have them over Marquette? I think Marquette and healthy Huskies are better. They’re in that conversation though.

Some people need to take a breath or learn how to manage expectations. Buy a hamster to vent to after games or something. Nobody thinks we have a great team. It's flawed in its contsruction. With that said, turning on a back to back coach or thinking you know what's wrong but the staff doesn't is ridiculous.

Nobody in the history of modern day college basketball was as good as we were last season. If there's any people who expect that again right away they have no understanding of basketball or they're completely delusional.

I don't really think anyone is holding them to those standards though.

I figured this was how the game was gonna go after they immediately allowed that 15pt lead to get to single digits, I've never seen a team's whole operation just completely disintegrate when going up dbl digits. I'm gonna keep harping on it but this is why I hated that nonsense Dan Hurley pulled vs Georgetown, for a team still trying to figure things out and key guys in need of live reps, the last thing they needed was for the coach to disconnect the controller after 32 minutes of game time.

Missing on Mahaney really killed this roster construction. It’s insane how we need 11 screens to create even a possibility of getting downhill.

Also the defense isn’t getting better, it’ll be marginally better with Liam, but he’s no Jackson Jr or Castle, the wings just give the least resistance I’ve ever seen on a Hurley coached team.

Can someone tell me what he said. I couldn’t figure it out and I could care less if the media was upset.
Let’s see the media talk about the support he had tonight for his players.

Yeah well…the media is by and large an embarrassment, so I wouldn’t fret too much.

Your posts are even more embarrassing knowing you're a lifelong fan. I always gave you the benefit of the doubt but that's gone now

Hurley not sounding great in press conference.
Says coaches are "exhausted."

Yeah. We work way too hard to create advantages on offense. I’d love Jalen Adams on this team.

Hulu apparently decided the game ended with 57 seconds left in regulation, so that was great. At least we won so it was worth the search to finish the game

The team has so many deep flaws it would require a miraculous transformation to even think there is chance to make run. But, that’s just the way it is and we should just accept it’s going to be a tough slog.

Hass had a bad second half but that wasn't his fault at the end of regulation. Coach needs to draw up better stuff or have a counter when his play gets blown up. Samson ended up with the ball again with 5 seconds left on the shot clock at the ft line and when Hass got it he had to shoot.

Hass is the biggest reason we aren't losing more of these games with McNeeley out.

Yeah, I would suggest having the offense run through Johnson handing the ball off to anyone 20' from the basketball with less than 5 seconds has poor results.

Outside of getting a healthy team back, my big hope for tourney time is we continue to see the trend of more emphasis on freedom of movement than we get in the BE. It’s just not an emphasis for the league refs and it really shows up in games like today where our off-ball stuff can get mucked up and we just don’t have the dudes to go manufacture a bucket and adapt to the way the game is being called. Last year we had enough guys that could just go get a bucket that it wasn’t as apparent, but we got a huge boost once we got out of league play from that two years ago.
