Because it is not UCONN. There should def be a rule against this.
I know it's been done before, I acknowledged that already. My issue is the guy is openly threatening to yank his kid from the school if he doesn't get hired. (The Memphis situation, to be clear). And he's "qualified" by being a successful high school coach because he's coaching his stud kids.

Temple hiring Rick Brunson as an assistant so I'd imagine his son will follow, that would be good for the league if Temple get him

According to a source, Temple basketball will hire Rick Brunson as an assistant. Is Jalen Brunson next? Post original url/1iGkkCZ
Is it just me or is this the shadiest development in the recruiting/general collegiate athletics world?

A major portion of college basketball is recruiting. And Keelon Lawson has come out and told the college basketball world that if you hire him he comes with 3 top recruits, guaranteed. Everyone knew this before he said it, it was kind of a given. But you're right there is no need for him to say it, it's almost as though he is flaunting it.

As far as a recruiting/coaching tactic I hate this move, but still don't have a problem with it as far as being unfair. Far more shady things happen in the world of recruiting. This isn't a big deal and has been going on for a long time; even Larry Brown did it to get Danny Manning way back when in Kansas.

I don't care if he's qualified though. It's the same situation as the school hiring a parent to another university position in order to get a kid. I'm not down.

You are essentially paying money to a family for a kid's services. They parent doesn't even have to do anything. They are not going to get fired, as long as the kid is there.

Even worse, the parent or handler likely also has a salary demand, perhaps including add'l cash paid under the table, but it is not a violation in the eyes of the NCAA.

Memphis fans were explaining the dad was qualified on his own merits and could get a job anywhere. Because he's a successful high school coach. He's certainly not smart enough to keep his mouth shut and let the schools come to him.

They aren't all wrong. But anywhere is a stretch. My research into Keelon Lawson has led to the conclusion that he has been on plenty of Southeastern schools radar for awhile and has had offers before. Whether those offers were in hopes of landing his sons or not I don't know. But many indications are the guy can coach and has been waiting until his sons came of age to make the jump.

But qualified or not I agree, keep your mouth shut. Him spouting off like this can only hurt his chances. Maybe a young coach like Pastner sees this nonsense and says I can't have that guy in my locker room.

Shut your mouth and take the job like everyone else does. Anybody remember that Bill Self hired Mario Chalmers dad? No, because he shut his mouth and took the job.

Agree. Toting his entire family about looking for a school that will take him is a joke. He's obviously not a long term hire, and has firmly attached himself to his kids' coattails.

I wonder how the Pastner/Lawson dynamic will play out coaching wise? Does Pastner even have any juice in the relationship?
