Temple hiring Rick Brunson as an assistant so I'd imagine his son will follow, that would be good for the league if Temple get him

Memphis is doing the same thing with Keelon Lawson, who has three sons:

K.J. Lawson - Top 40 2015 SF (already committed to Memphis)
Dedric Lawson - Top 10 2016 PF
Chandler Lawson - Top 5 2019 SF

I marvel at people's (i.e. other school fans) excited/hopeful comments on the recruit pages. Its amazing how we rarely pick these guys up, yet we still win Championships and with exciting basketball. Go figure.

Being a Husky fan and at the top of the basketball world it is so cool not to fret at recruits not picking us. We have proven that we will be fine. Sure it helps to get a few but if even if we don't we still do well, actually very well.

Pretty amazing huh:

But Keelon Lawson made it clear last week that if he were to get a job at a college outside of Memphis, then K.J. Lawson would almost certainly decommit and follow him to that school. "With loyalty to Josh, I would ask K.J., 'Would you want to stay [with Memphis] or would you want to go with me and Dedric?'" Keelon Lawson said. "But with us being a close-knit family, you know what the answer would be. He would say, 'Dad, I'm going with you.' So, of course, K.J. would go with me, and then Dedric, and then Chandler."

Simply put, Pastner recognizes the reality of the situation and stakes involved, and a source told CBSSports.com that the idea of another school hiring Keelon Lawson and essentially lifting three elite prospects out of Memphis is not something Pastner is anxious to risk.

"The only way to guarantee another school doesn't hire Keelon is for Memphis to hire Keelon," a source said. "So that's probably what's going to happen."

This kid is going to be a great player no matter where ends up. I've been a fan for awhile and he continues to shine. Over the past 5 days I've watched all 5 games in the FIBA U18 Championship and Brunson was one of the most impressive players in the USA's undefeated Gold medal run.

Stanley Johnson won the MVP but Brunson led the team in minutes, averaged in double figures scoring and at many times looked to outplay Duke's Tyus Jones. While Jones finished with more assists Brunson never seemed to turn the play over and looked to have better control of the game.

Offensively he is strong and confident using his strength with the ball to get where he wants on the court and move the defense. On the other end he has much better lateral quickness than you'd think looking at him. He has great instincts on both ends and will knock down a 3 if you give him room.

Essentially, he is about as close to a prototypical PG as you'll find at 17 years old. It seems his father has taught him well.

He's a nice player…….I'll take Jalen Adams though still. Just more jump to his step and is more Shabazz which is a real good thing!

How the hell is this ok? I know people have hired fathers in the past to lock up a blue-chip son, but I've never seen anyone openly lobby for a job. One step removed from Cam Newton's dad.

I know it's not the majority opinion on this board but I think Brunson is the better player. Gladly take either though

Exactly. How is this ok? Does anyone have a legitimate answer?

I have no problem with this. Bizarre for sure but this is the world we live in, and nothing is being done under the table. Lawson won high school championships as a coach and played in college so its not like he is unfamiliar with the game.

This would be great for the AAC, as is the best pure PG going to Temple playing under Dunphy. I hope we get out of this conference asap but at looks like it well be a strong hoops conference at least.

I also don't have a problem with this. It's been going on forever; whether is parents, high school coaches, AAU coaches, etc. They are very rarely unqualified. I think most team would take Rick Brunson on the staff. I don't know as much about Lawson but my research shows a resume that can easily land you on an NCAA staff.

I personally think it's a bad idea for a team; a coach with obvious favorites who you can argue isn't their for the team. And it creates a confusing situation for a young player. Does he answer to his Head Coach or his father?

Won't stop Temple from hiring him. That school is DESPERATE for athletes in any of the 14 sports they have left.

Because it is not UCONN. There should def be a rule against this.

And what assistant gets canned to make room?

The majority of the time this happens there is a spot open on the staff. If not then guys get moved around. There are a number of noncountable coaching spots on every major staff that assistants can slide over to.

However, it would be against the rules for the school to place the parent or coach or whomever in a noncountable job. If you want to bring a player in this way the handler has to take up a countable assistant slot. And believe it or not most programs aren't going to just waste an assistant slot for one player; most of these guys can coach.

It's not a perfect system but it's far from broken.

All that aside the other things going on in Rick Brunson's life make it seem like he won't being joining Temple's staff.
