Let me try again.
1. The sportscasters I cited (Scully, Emrich, Michaels, etc.) are generally held in very high regard in their profession and by fans.
2. All are articulate as they provide thoughtful commentary and insights.
3. None are known to have significant experience as sports participants.
4. It is safe to say they (and many like them) command greater respect than most ex-jocks. There are of course exceptions in both categories (like Dick Vitale and Stephanie White).
I rest my case.
We agree. I don't care whether one does or does not have "game experience." I take it that you don't either. But to put former athletes (or coaches) on the air who exhibit sub-standard communication skills is, viewed from my recliner, just another irritation. Sorry if I misunderstood your response.
