Now I must wonder if:
Vin Scully ever played baseball
Doc Emrich " " hockey
Al Michaels " " football
Mike Breen/Marv Albert " " basketball

Surely there are others; of course we know that Doris and Kara played basketball.;)
Vin, Doc and as a city boy, Marv. Treasures that cannot replicated. But thisclose would be appreciated.

Of course, these examples are irrelevant to my original point, as they all can and do put sentences together quite well. Scully wasn't too bad.

Bob Picozzi. He has the experience, knowledge and voice that is perfect for the job.

Of course, there is NO chance he'd get any consideration.
Now there's an interesting choice. I absolutely hated Picozzi as a UConn announcer, but really like him when he fills in on various national games. Great pipes, very knowledgeable.

Let me try again.

1. The sportscasters I cited (Scully, Emrich, Michaels, etc.) are generally held in very high regard in their profession and by fans.

2. All are articulate as they provide thoughtful commentary and insights.

3. None are known to have significant experience as sports participants.

4. It is safe to say they (and many like them) command greater respect than most ex-jocks. There are of course exceptions in both categories (like Dick Vitale and Stephanie White).

I rest my case.

We agree. I don't care whether one does or does not have "game experience." I take it that you don't either. But to put former athletes (or coaches) on the air who exhibit sub-standard communication skills is, viewed from my recliner, just another irritation. Sorry if I misunderstood your response.

Closer to home, has it been announced who will replace Kerith Burke on the SNY broadcasts?

Vin Scully was an outfielder for Fordham University.

Where is Kerith Burke going?

If it could be worked out, I'd love to see Swin get a shot at this one.

I believe Swin works for MSG doing the Knicks pregame and after game. I don't know if she can do both or would even want to do both.

I believe she will first fulfill all contractual obligations, then:
follow the money; or,
pursue any new opportunity; or,
obey her gut instinct.
and she do just fine.:)
