AB had one of those days when he could not get his feet or his hands to do the right things on the defensive end. He got in rebounding position but couldn't catch the ball or played volleyball. On defense rather than standing his ground and stick on his man or his assignment he got caught up with chasing the guards running in his area and out of position leaving the post wide open. He hasn't played long enough to adjust-he will. This was more a Nolan type game. And TO - I thought he played well enough in spots to do some things to help. He was no less effective than AB. I thought Facey could have played a bit more. DD was huge defensively the last 5 minutes and OT (the foul call in OT for that 3 pt play was ridiculous-he wasn't even in the play to reach in).
His offensive effort flat out sucked and don't think UConn can afford that in the tournament. I still can't understand why he is so weak with the ball and seems to fall an awful lot.
This was a huge win, but the games vs. Lville and Cincy loom larger. Also- no more WTF losses. This team showed it can grind it out-a great trait for the dance.

I replayed the one rebound he was trying to haul in one handed and saw that the Memphis guy had his arm a locked in his purposefully so he never could get the other hand on it……...

Our freshman center is going to have his days like this, where he just can't get into the flow of the game. Hopefully by March it happens less frequently.

Didn't ABOUT have a good game last time out against Memphis? Why would this game be too fast for him.
Just had a tough game , it happens especially an inexperienced player like him.

In all honesty, I would have preferred having AB under the basket fouling their guards rather than Memphis getting lay-up after lay-up.

AB needs to work through these times where hes not having a good game rather than being forced to sit and watch. Nolan played well and TO wasn't awful either but AB should have seen a few more minutes. He would have helped protect the rim better and we had a few fouls to give. Doesn't make sense to me.

Yes...it was Goodwin. The announcers commented why is he trying to grab it with one hand...overall the officiating was fine but Goodwin received some favorable treatment.

Goodman reminds me of a player in the mold of Pitt PFs like Troutman who knew how to hit and grab and hipcheck and generally get away with nearly constant fouling by doing so in a well-rehearsed and somewhat subtle way. Goodman moved Nolan around at will in the first half, but it seemed that Phil did a much better job holding his ground in the second half. I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining....Troutman was a great player, especially against UConn, it seemed. Goodwin is less subtle, more aggressive in the way he was getting down low and moving our guys around. It is a weak spot of this team....how do we match up with those strong/quick PFs who can body our skinny centers around. Nolan had more of the look of a competitor in the second half, less uncertain and more willing to fight to hold his ground.

But you are right Phil was being wrestled around by Goodwin, actually manhandled but he held his own despite the refs allowing it…….one call on Phil was laughable as Goodwin (or Goodman? lol) hit the post like a tidal wave and they called the contact on Phil……….funny thing about the calls and the foul disparity for Memphis fans is - it could have been worst!!

We won the game so not too much to complain about. I would have liked to see AB get a little more run to see if he could make the adjustments. BTW their guards didn't do such a great job defending us either.

Smart*sses can have karma come back at them in unexpected ways....my apologies to Mr. Goodwin and his family and to all who have ever known him or looked in his general direction. It would be nice if UConn could get some guys like him. Maybe Lubin can become one.
