Braylon Mullins named Second Team Naismith Award All American

Double congrats - really impressive to be part of the second five in this loaded class. Can’t wait for his arrival.

Couple notes - 3 of the top ten still undecided, which is wild. No Montverde kids after that loaded team last year. Meleek’s stock seems to have dropped a bit throughout the year.

Braylon is a gamer for sure..he has that Cam fire, deadeye to shoot 45% from deep, and at 6-5 or 6-6 he's gonna be a great shooting guard.

Btw time is running out for Hassan to throw an alley oop to Jayden. I really want to hear the announcer scream "Diarra Ross!"

Indiana would be wise to target Beard

I know an IU alum who's said that the university looks at Beard as a hard no. No idea if that's true or not.

Per the above comment, I can't be the only one that's holding my breath to see who they hire. I never really thought Stevens was a real option but I felt a bit better when he squashed it.

I bet some are back there thinking if they can get a great coach they can lure him back ala McNeeley.
I am sure they are. You hire McDermott, he is not going to target him as he is tight with Hurley and that's not his style. Beard may very well try to recruit him and offer him $$$$. That's always a concern nowadays.

Mick Cronin may, in fact, be walking through that door

There is going to be a massive carousel this offseason with the 2 open ACC jobs, Nova, Texas and IU.

I’m very curious how much they attract - I don’t think IU is for everyone. The Texas job will likely be seen as more attractive. This is a huge recoup for them and they can’t mess this one up. Their puritan idealism may get in the way of finding someone who can rebuild.

You're talking about Beard here, right? Puritan idealism?

IU is Pearl's dream job. If they won't go with Beard I'm not sure Pearl is their guy (and he's got a $15M buyout) but, like Pitino, you hire him and you know he's going to win. He's got it rolling right now but he's also got an old-ass team that's going to turn over.

Agree. Pearl feels so non-IU. I've heard the name multiple times now and now sure if he'd entertain it, but McDermott feels like a slam dunk cultural fit. As would Dusty May if he was available.

And yeah, was talking about Beard. Here the college hoops world is salivating over Pitino this year (with his many moral blemishes), who is an amazing coach, yet a guy like Beard isn't given a second chance.

Pitino has moral blemishes. Beard has something else. And he is being given a second chance -- he's a coach right now.

McDermott was offered the Ohio State job and the Notre Dame Job and turned them down. Probably not as big as the Indiana job but that's honestly debatable at this point. IU has the history but it's a long time ago.

Indiana would offer a ton of money but I don't think that's important to him. He's older, he's wealthy and his son is super wealthy. Most importantly McDermott seems really happy at Creighton, I think he finishes his career there.

A coworker is an Indiana alum. He's said for months now that a large part of the alumni base wants Oats, but they also believe Bama has deep enough pockets to keep him.

Since they are not getting our boy Dan Hurley, or Brad Stevens, Oats would be a great secondary option that I highly doubt they will be able to pull away from Bama. A name that would not shock me is Shaka Smart.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming, I am so pumped for Mullins — aside from pure bulk, he seems to have it all. Him and Reibe will change the complexion of team next year.

Would have to think Golden gets a good look, although Florida doesn’t seem like a bad place to camp out. I’m not sure how much the fall drama impacted his stock. Hard not to like a guy that young that has turned a program around that fast, creatively.

Were there really people out there that thought Brad Steven’s was gonna leave being the president of basketball operations of the Celtics to coach IU

Very cool… also, dammit, I’m old. Two Boozer’s, Obinna Ekezie Jr., and Marcus Spears Jr.
I had the same thought about myself when I was in Maui for the 2nd game between Michigan State-Colorado. I heard the introductions say "Jason Richardson Jr.". I had to pause and think, "I think I have heard this name before" until I realized, "Oh damn I watched his father play in Michigan State and his entire NBA career".

It made my mid life crisis come faster, LOL.

FWIW Darryn Peterson was named the Naismith High School Player of the Year today and not AJ Dybantsa. That didn't surprise me that much but what did surprise me in this article is that Jonathan Givony has Peterson being drafted overall number 1 over number 2 Dybantsa. I thought Dybantsa was supposed to be the best prospect in the last 10-15 years? Is this going to be like Michael Jordan going 3rd? Or is Peterson really a better prospect? Because that's not what the hype machine has been telling us.

Peterson is awesome. Self must be geeked. Dybantsa gets the edge as a prospect because of his size and athleticism and what you can project him as but I wouldn't be surprised if Peterson is more productive in his one year of college.
