No Gilbert in either game, but hopefully Jalen can make the difference.

Jalen didn’t play and Whaley had no points apparently...attendance number is probably wrong by 8,000 or so but it is otherwise maybe correct?

I know we kept it close despite no Adams or Gilbert, but the game was at home. We need to give everything we’ve got, and more in order to have a shot. It can absolutely be done, and after playing them tough/close already, I dont think the guys will be scared in any way. The only thing that scares me is that Houston is hot right now. They destroyed Cincy over the weekend and they put up 85-90+ points in 4 of their last 6 games. I expect a good game, I think the key is to get out to a hot start.

Yes a good(hell I’d settle for nondisastrous) first 5 minutes to each half is 100% needed

Hard to beat a team 3 times in a year, especially a well coached team. Expecting a dog fight

Teams that won the first 2 matchups win the 3rd matchup 70-75% of the time (depending on source of the stat).

For the record, KenPom gives Houston an 83% chance to win.

14-25 from the FT line. If we could dramatically improve on that percentage, maybe we have a chance.

Im a firm believer in the whole “its hard to beat a team 3 times in one season”. We only played Houston once, but I would honestly feel really good about playing UCF or Cincinnati again.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. This is a discussion why?

I think Cincy is a decent matchup for us which is why both games were close. They don't have the offensive bigs to punish us down low, their guards don't really penetrate, and Polley/Wilson are decent defenders for Cumberland.

The third game would also likely be close. But that has nothing to do with the 3rd time thing. If we played 6 times, 5 would likely be close and we'd win a couple.

UCF isn't as good, but a worse matchup for us. I think it's pretty likely we lose a 3rd matchup by a similar 10 point margin.

They killed us going to the basket and getting clean lay ups off their offense. Or interior defense has to get better.

Thanx for the info. I didn't know these stats.

Why are we always "doomed"?

It's a safer default in the wake of the last (non March of 2014) 7 years of UConn basketball and football. (The saying probably predates 2012, but the reality set in then.)

If stripes allow them to manhandle us while calling touch fouls on us I'm not feeling too gadabout this one. And I do expect that type of treatment from these clueless AAC refs.
