Happened upon a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 yesterday at a shop in Farmington. $50. Last time I saw it was about 4 or 5 years ago and it was $34.
You missed the period a couple of years ago when it was $100. Some of the hype is gone finally, its fundamentally a $45-50 bottle really. 10 year age statement and it is more or less still single barrel.Happened upon a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 yesterday at a shop in Farmington. $50. I picked this up the other day. It has a slight initial “craft” note but then a really solid graham cracker, cinnamon, maple flavors and creamy finish. Enjoying it.

That's just crazy. I used to buy it regularly at $30. Like you said 10 YO and single barrel. Even at $50 it's undervalued when you look at what's out there selling for $60-$70 at half that age statement. I think you convinced me that I should go back and get another bottle. I found this in Mass of all places. Never seen it up here before. I will look for the Sherry when I'm next down in the Low Country. Seeing prices online I may need to buy another as my store was cheaper. Our BCS rep went to work for them when she got cut loose. Its an interesting brand and story. Their sherry finish is really good, try it if you get a chance.
By the way, as @Deepelm said the story is pretty cool. This is essentially a corn whiskey, 100% corn. But not just any corn, a rare species of red corn they more or less revived for this purpose. Ordinary corn whiskey would probably be boring as hell. Balcones makes a corn whiskey in Texas from blue corn.I picked this up the other day. Must have not noticed after typing @ DSome thoughts. One is to go over to r/bourbon on Reddit and look at the recommended bourbons and ryes. There’s a list by price point.OK, looking for some help. When I go into my local big bottle place, there are TONS of bourbons and ryes at all different price points. Other than the big names, how the heck am I supposed to know what might be good with the lesser known bottles?
It's hard to really research because I never know what's going to be there and I can only spend so much time looking stuff up while purusing. Is there one site that you guys have found better at reviews? Most of the good ones I've seen are video, which is annoying to watch while at the store.
I did try this one and thought it was good. The White Label for $60. I got it because I'd been to the restaurant in Nashville. No other reason.
Avoid - Cleveland, Few, Garrison Brothers, Hudson, Mad River.

Peg Leg Porker is sourced from George Dickel. If you like it (it has a very mineral focused profile) then you can easily find George Dickel on shelves. I think the 8 year is very inexpensive. Barrel makes excellent blends and mostly uses Dickel.
Yikes. Don’t do that. Forelaza Anejo. Probably $100 even. Best stuff there is really. The Reposado is really nice. G4 is also very good. Either one will be a very good choice. Don Julio is marketingAny suggestions for a top shelf anejo tequila?
I am aware of Don Julio 1942 and know it tastes great.
It’s a gift for a good friend and a top shelf 18 month anejo is something he would appreciate.
I'm okay going up to about $250-$300 if it's worth it

Wow. Those are ridiculous prices. Did you look at local shops? I may need to hoard my unopened Fortaleza Reposado. The tariffs are probably causing people to jack up prices even though the stuff on shelves wasn't subject to it.Thanks. Looks like scarcity can affect pricing for Fortaleza. I'll look for a bottle. Any other suggestions?View attachment 107447

Those online shops you checked all seem to charge well over retail. Are you shipping it?
For Whiskey and Mezcal this site is good. SharedPour.com
Looks like I need to go buy some Tequilla and Mezcal.
The fancier the bottle, like those skulls or weird shaped painted things, generally the worse the product inside.Thanks. I will be checking out some local liquor stores along with the military exchange liquor stores to see what is available. I'm hand carrying it for a friend who's a doctor and helped me out with some stuff.
He enjoys a good sipping tequila and has a preference for anejos more than resposados.
The various single barrel MGP bottles from different bottlers are some of the best things going. I've loved all my Tumbling Dice bottles so far.Cant load a photo for some stupid reason, but I snagged a Nulu double oak at work Sat. With my lovely gift card for working on Xmas and my discount, I was out the door at $33.00 lol. I know its MGP, but they do know how to make good whiskey. And this is good damn whiskey. It tastes like a candy bar, all chocolate and caramel. Its 7 years old, with 2.5 years of secondary oak maturation.

You inspired me to this bottle killI have one from Jay's program that is delicious.
Actually, Bacardi Anejo Cuatro.Any suggestions for a top shelf anejo tequila?
