No one here is giving him a pass or buying excuses.

The point some are making is that no one (or almost no one) is irredeemable.
The pattern of behavior across the board for years now is the troubling part. So much talent, so little focus. Gifted beyond belief, but not a clue how to conduct himself. Truly sad to be wasting such gifts.

I'm afraid nothing short of some sort of major intervention will put him on the right course.

Let's see here; while a frosh in Storrs' steals a car, crashes car (probably under the influence), runs from scene/police - gets a pass from coach, light wrist slap from court and charges eventually disappear. In the past year, arrested at least 3 additional times for speeding, reckless driving, and failure to comply. This fourth incident; passed out in running car at intersection for over an hour while police use loudspeaker to try to wake him up, finally gets up, eats a snack, drives car intentionally into 2 police cars as he attempts to evade, all under the influence of something certainly more than the 4 shots of tequila which he claims. What is so naive and cruel when there is a very high possibility that some innocent could/would be maimed or killed due this habitual wanton, reckless, behavior? There are way too many boneyarders here are willing give him another pass and buy the excuse nonsense, ad nauseum - sorry, not me!

You still haven't explained how permanently writing him off as a "bad seed" benefits society at all. It's actually quite interesting how you conveniently ignored my post, the one that most clearly criticized you. Should Bouk get a life sentence for (probably) getting high and being unconscious?

Otherwise, we better treat him like a human being and get him some help. People that think their irredeemable don't get help, because they've been told their unhelpable--I can tell you that from very, VERY personal experience.

I’m not so sure he’s suicidal or has depression. That’s also very hard to dictate on a message forum.

If I had to guess I think he’s got an ego the size of the sun. Rules don’t apply to him and whatever he does, repercussions don’t matter.
Oh so true and people turning blind eyes over the past 8 years, fully knowing Bouks shortcomings, who should have intervened, bear some sense of culpability. His issues started during HS/Prep and continued to escalate. A total shame

I don't know James Bouknight other than I'm a huge fan of the school he played for. I won't judge him positively or negatively because I haven't walked a step in his shoes. Right now, he's just a young guy that keeps screwing up. I have no idea if he's a loveable idiot, or something more sinister. He's lucky his crimes have been mostly victimless and he'd better do something before that changes.

But something just seems so off about the reaction from James, his PR people, and the Hornets. This arrest was a bad look all around. Seriously impaired behind the wheel, gun in his lap, multiple reckless driving instances come to light, etc. and all right at the start of the season. I can't believe he's still playing. I'd think he'd be suspended, or he'd take a leave to get his head clear. I'm also surprised he doesn't have a team of people helping him with the spin. That apology was brutal. There's no way he worked on the apology with a PR person and it sounds completely disingenuous. This should be a pivot moment for James. Make this rock bottom. But it doesn't seem like it's being taken seriously enough.

With four cases pending, I would expect that he is receiving legal advice about what to say and what not to say.

4 shots of liquor is = .08 and drops by .02 every hour, so if he was 1.4 he had more like 8/10 shots. Everyone lies, they’re better off not answering then admitting to a diminished amount. The breathalyzers speaks for itself in court. I can’t wait for the new “ potalyzers to become available next year. There’s going to be more tickets for that than alcohol. ( we install these for the state of Florida). Everyone thinks that you can drive stoned with a BS medical pot card. Alcohol is legal , you don’t need a card. you can’t drive shitfaced, they’re working on a limit for THC and determining over what period of time since you last smoked or ingested it. It’s a lot more complicated than alcohol which only gets ingested.

I almost hate to admit it, but it appears Chief was right about James not being ready for the NBA. His past year couldn't have gone any worse given his natural abilities. I still think he had to go, based upon the $, but it's clear from a maturity standpoint he was light years from being ready.

OK, just for you. Let's first examine what a "bad seed" is. You plant seeds, in good soil. water them, fertilize them, nurture them and hope they grow and thrive. Most of the time they do just that. Sometimes in your batch of "seeds" no matter what you do, the seed does not germinate, grow, and mature despite everything you have done Unfortunately, no matter how many times you plant that seed, it will not grow.. Hence, my "bad seed" moniker. Capisici? I am not "writing him off permanently", he is doing that quite well on his own!

So you are saying that you believe he is not capable of growth.

Others disagree.

No one is suggesting that he has displayed model development.

Yeah? 12 more months with unhinged DH would’ve changed Bouk’s life?

Yes, and a "bad seed" is never going to grow. That's saying someone is completely incapable of ever being a good citizen. So yeah, that is "writing him off permanently"

That is an absolutely ridiculous thing to say about James or just about anyone.

Remember when he signed his letter of intent Hurley said the staff was afraid that Duke or Kentucky were going to get involved and steal him? Maybe they realized the baggage just wasn’t worth it.

I think you’re talking with a generally binary thinker.

I kinda agree. Look at something like Michael Meyer. 7 years old and stabbed his sister. To me, that defines a bad seed.

Yeah, it would have. How? We will never know, but his story would certainly be different and hopefully better.

Bo Diddley is from another generation.

Wonder if JB ever heard of him, or ever heard the song?

Song might reflect his response if he knew the song. If he reads the BY, now he will know the song.
I first heard it by Creedence Clearwater Revival when I was a teenager. I suppose it's most popularly known as a Clapton song, .
