Another interesting tidbit on Brimah:

@wspaxton: Freshman Amida Brimah said a left rotator cuff injury affected his early-season ability to rebound. He's feeling better now. #UConn

@wspaxton: Brimah: "I messed up my shoulder, so it hurt my effort. I used to be a good rebounder. My shoulder is getting better ... " #UConn

I had tweeted Borges on this topic on Sunday. Glad to hear that we can get our questions answered. Remember when we were fans 20 years ago, pre social media, there was virtually no way to get a question like this answered

We got to get Giffey some open looks. Guys on the team need to make a team effort to set screen after screen for him until he is free. There is no reason he can't be used like JJ Reddick was for Dukies.

glad to read this, but this should have been (hopefully was) the onus from game two on, not a story before game 14. I'm hoping this was just a quote for an article and not some sort of revelation.

Ollie had this to say: “I’d like him to shoot 10 shots, wide-open. If I can diagram a play to get that, I’d definitely like to do that"

I agree this is kind of alarming that the issue is being addressed now, when many of us had began questioning it quite a few games ago. The cliché "better late than never" is not even applicable, its just a head scratching 'bad' oversight plain and simple.

You guys are acting like getting Giffey wide open shots is easy. I'd say when he was shooting >50% in mid-December, teams started coming up with ways to keep a defender on him at all times. And Niels needs to be more aggressive; he's passed up a few good looks just because he wasn't completely wide open.

I have no problem with a guy shooting 62% from three taking a few semi contested shots. No reason to say shoot only if you're wide open. Niels with a decent or good look is a far better option than a wide open Omar three (29%). But that's all on Giffey - he just has to get a little less unselfish and shoot some marginal shots, not just the wide open ones. Even if he only hits 35% of contested shots, it's a better option in many cases.

Agree... Do find it maddening though, that a guy who has shot it as well as Niels has, is only getting a couple of good looks a game and it seems those looks usually come in transition or on the secondary break. Part of that is on Niels for not getting open, but a huge part of it is that the offense doesn't really afford him the opportunity to get many looks. In our half court O, he essentially serves as a screener, a tactic that was effective early in the year but since being scouted, is more or less useless at this point.

Lets be fair to Omar now and look at his percentage against high majors & conference opponents...29% would be awesome for he is actually shooting 17.2%!

10 wide open shots is asking too much - he wont get that many looks unless he moves without the ball - he needs to create at least half on his own.
IF he does get 10 a game and hits only 2 0r 3, I wonder who will get on here and say it was a mistake
I cant see anyone shooting like he was earlier consistently through a 30 game season
Why not work to clear all our guys for open looks?
One way to start is get some offensive rebounds

Giffey would be better off the bench, could be rashad anderson 3 pt. all day..
Rashad Anderson was so clutch from 3. It was great when he would just hit a three 2-3 straight times down the floor. Ive missed the days where we had a 3 point shooter that can just hit them with ease. Giffey has shown this year that he can be that guy and its about time he will get more chances.

I could be wrong here, but I believe we started the season utilizing waaaaaay more off-ball and even double off-ball screens that got Niels and Omar wide open. Now, it seems we're running high on-ball screens with screeners that have no business being options for quick inside passes. These comments make me hope we are going back to that method of getting our other contributors more looks. Niels still has to have the nuts to pull the trigger, though.

Giffey's chances of getting open looks will increase if he actually on the court.

Constant movement and none of the standing around while the gaurds dribble for 25 seconds would help.

He already moves without the ball, much better than anybody else on the team. He's not Rip Hamilton (nobody was ever better) but he's as good as we've had in some time at moving without the ball. He's been ignored. KO is going public with this (I hope) so that the other guys will give Neils the ball (and yes he needs to rise and shoot over people even when guarded).
