Right, he's taller, stronger and a better defender.
ofcourse, since we are discussing defensive schemes. It is delusional to think Giffey could sniff that level of production. That's not on the coaches; it's the personnel

So who is it that's keeping him from averaging 27 points a game, Ollie or the guards?

A. His own confidence B. the guards (and forwards) and C. Ollie/JC. He played pretty well against pros, including guys like Tony Parker, in the Euro tournament this year. Confidence was high early this year and it showed.

Huh. Because I thought there was nothing on this earth that could make Giffey into remotely the kind of player Redick was in college. He was pretty good, if you remember. Or is this some anti-Duke thing? I don't like them either, but this is one of the dumber conversations to have gone on around here.
Just a little more confidence and Giffey would be a first-team all-American. Sure.

It always amazes me when people read some half-ass blog post and draw some "alarming" conclusion from it. I think some people on here really think they have something to tell the coaching staff at a D1 school about tactics and strategy.

My initial snarky response saying he was "taller, stronger and played better D" was both correct and tongue in cheek. So relax. Redick was scoring 40 points a game in HS. He has a much better handle, and can create better with the ball than Neils. He was almost certainly a better straight up shooter too and had amazing range at Duke. His D was pretty weak though, and improved a bunch in the NBA.

But I think Giffey is absolutely a 15-18 a game guy, with 5-6 boards in the right system and with the right confidence. First team AA, no. Second team all AAC, maybe. He will go back to Germany, latch on with a pro team, and be a very, very good pro in Europe.
