No way. Not when John Toner was making the decision.I believe Tom Penders was heavily in the mix as well

In the papers at the time it was reported that they had three finalists: Macarchuk, Mitch Buonaguro and JC. I never heard they wanted Nick.
They are looking to start on the road. Talking to some Big Ten teams. Are there any rumors who it could possibly be?
Bob Zuffelato?Who was the guy from Torrington CT who was a scout for the Milwaukee Bucks and had been a coach elsewhere? There was interest in him as well….,maybe Bob something?
Bob Zuffelato?

I remember thinking we blew it when we "lost" Buonaguro to Fairfield his first year there. In the papers at the time it was reported that they had three finalists: Macarchuk, Mitch Buonaguro and JC. I never heard they wanted Nick.
Bob's son, Scott, was the UConn marketing AD for 8 years. been at the BB Hall of Fame since '99.Bob Zuffelato?
Need to consider BC too.

Seems like it could end up a being a Neutral/Home/Home series situationSeems like they tried to get a road game and then Illinois just wanted an MSG game?
They can also get the concessions from the game where the other two teams play each other.
Interesting way to handle buy games and still get the extra regular season games the MTEs afford
I remember hearing quite a few who sat near me at the Civic center complaining that we didn't hire Penders. This was after we won the NIT, Penders took URI to the sweet 16 in 1988 and a lot of people (who believed a UConn grad should get special consideration) felt Penders was the better option, even with our NIT win.I remember thinking we blew it when we "lost" Buonaguro to Fairfield his first year there.
It was also JC's first year at UConn and he had a losing record while Buonaguro had a solid winning season..........turned out to be his only winning season though!
However it happened, John Toner made his second great hire in a row with JC. Geno the year before turned out pretty well too!

I don’t remember that, but I do know that those were the final three.Who was the guy from Torrington CT who was a scout for the Milwaukee Bucks and had been a coach elsewhere? There was interest in him as well….,maybe Bob something?

Central CT guy and coached at quite a few locals including BC.
