Borges says Bouk is gone

Bumped into Bouk at the Apple store in Evergreen earlier today lol

Jokingly asked him if he’s coming back. We both laughed the question off.

Dude is a future millionaire, he needs to go get his money
The fact that he didn't just say yes is still interesting though. He might be struggling to make it official.

Long term investments are built on a solid foundation. There is more work to do on that in various areas, but if the sound foundation is built, the sky is the limit. I think that sound foundation can best be built at UConn.
Why?

He could stay and firm up aspects of his game, get insured and what not. But if the lottery pick projections are firm, he is adios.

Thought I'd add this story.

James Bouknight | SG | UConn
Top 100 ranking: 18

Bouknight's college career likely ended on a disappointing note, with two of his worst games of the season coming in UConn's losses in the Big East and NCAA tournaments against Creighton and Maryland. He was 10-for-30 from the field with three turnovers and seven assists in those two games. That's particularly discouraging considering Bouknight was limited to 15 games due to an injury and finished the season shooting 29% from beyond the arc while posting a 1.8 to 2.8 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Nevertheless, there's a lot to like about Bouknight's talent as a shot-creator. He handles the ball on a string and has real shot-making prowess from all over the floor. His body will likely continue to fill out, which should help him on the defensive end, where he struggles at the moment, as well as when taking contact around the basket.

Bouk is an amazing talent. It won't be long before he is putting up 20 plus points in the NBA, at least on occasion. Once he gets stronger, there's no reason he can't be a beast at the next level.

If he can be a lottery pick that helps our recruiting immensely.
I know, old fashioned. but if our best players always leave early leaving the program to perpetually come up short, it gets us darn close to the programs we love to hate. Getting less than even 3 years out of the real stars might or might not help recruiting, I’m not convinced it builds a major winner. It is what it is. Good luck to James whatever he decides.

He reminds me of De'Aaron Fox. Atheltic, lean, lots of potential as a creator.
Fox has 10x a better handle than Bouk and can beat his man off the dribble. I’d say he’s more of an Alan Crabb or maybe a Jacob Evans type SG.

@nomar - If the class catalog doesn’t work, how about a GM dance?

NBA or Europe the man is going to get paid and paid well. Now if you told me he is going to Kentucky to complete his degree and get paid well you would get no argument from me.

Bouk (pre injury) was getting to the rim through multiple defenders at will. He didnt have the tightest handle in the world but he was so crafty and slick in the ways he could break people down. It fully went away once he came back from injury. I hope he gains that recklessness back, because I think part of his problems with that part of the game when he came back was him protecting himself. And its not a criticism. I get it. Pre injury he got banged around alot but it was during successful plays. The best way I can describe it is that he was playing on instinct pre injury and you could almost see him thinking about things post injury. that tiny split second difference means a lot.

Against CCSU, Hartford, and DePaul yes he was.

Not buying this. Not back in game shape after injury and played more cautiously. He will explode in the NBA. Calling it now, he will be a 20ppg career scorer in the nba with all star appearances.
And 1st creighton and USC
We’ll have to wait and see. He needs to develop his body if he wants to succeed, as well as game.

I do think he’ll have a long nba career, but a career 20ppg prediction is silly. Even Ray didn’t average 20ppg for his career. Neither does Klay Thompson. I think he’ll be a very solid 2 guard, but not one of the top 70 ppg scorers literally of all time.

I don't know If anybody pointed this out yet, but I think the fact that Bouknight got hurt this season pretty much sealed the deal for him declaring for the draft. I don't think he would risk coming back for another year to improve his draft stock and risk getting hurt again to put him in a worse situation. Bouknight and Hurley are probably getting input from NBA scouts so Bouknight can make an informed decision, as he should. When it comes down to it, the risks of coming back are probably not worth it.
