Borges couldn't believe that Zach Lavine was drafted before Bazz, he definitely fits the demographic of posters here who don't understand how the NBA works. He's a baseball guy masquerading as a CBB beatwriter.

After two years at UConn, Bouknight will almost certainly enter his name in the 2021 NBA Draft in the coming days.

Right...the article isn’t news, but the diction in his tweet is either making a GIANT assumption, or he knows something as a beat writer. He chose “he’s gone,” and not “he’s likely gone” or “he’s probably gone.”

for starters i hope this means we get back the tyrese who kept us afloat while bouk was out. hawkins is also a higher rated recruit than bouk was (if bouk hadnt been injured in highschool i think we woulda ended up around 50 where hawk is). maybe those 2 guys alone can give us what bouk did in terms of scoring...idk maybe wishful thinking.

Right now the biggest area of improvement needed in Bouknight's game after making 3's is mental toughness to make plays under pressure. There is plenty of athleticism but when I saw he was going up against the Big10 defensive player of the year who liked to chirp I knew we were in trouble. It carried over to the free throw line. When the game is on the line can you make plays and lead the team to victory? Good luck Bouknight. From here on out it is a business.

Borges made a comment under "Rim Rattlings" to expect a slow trickle of announcements of whose staying and going w/ the possibility of one or two seniors returning. I'd be surprised to see Carlton come back given the lack of playing time this year, the addition of Samson and certain added playing time for Springs.

Read Dom Amore's article in the Courant today
Her basically said that Bouk isn't NBA ready but will go - unlike when Rip was a sophomore, after a season much more prolific than Bouks, went from coaches office to coaches office saying goodbye. His last stop was at Calhouns office and when he came out he said, I'm staying another year. We all know what happened the following season. For Bouk's fate, I wish that would happen now. My gut tells me it won't be pretty for him.

From Borges’ latest article: Expect a slow trickle of announcements over the coming days/weeks on what UConn players may return for next season. It’s not out of the realm that a senior or two could return under the NCAA’s COVID-influenced guidelines that give them one extra year of eligibility.

The best thing Bouk can do for UConn is to declare sooner rather than later so that appropriate plans can be made for the UConn program and his own career. I hope it doesn't get dragged out.

No, he's ready. He has all the talent in the world and what he does with it at the next level is up to him. Bouk is a late lottery pick right now, worst case, first round pick. It would be absurdly stupid for him to return to college - the NBA would mark him as damaged goods. Average number of upperclassmen taken in the top 14/lottery the past 3 decades:

1990s: 10.6
2000s: 5.8
2010s: 2.6

There have been 10 upperclassmen selected in the lottery in the draft since our last championship. The NBA has clearly shifted away from prioritizing upperclass prospects. Bouk will get better training, coaching, meal prep, mentorship - everything - at the NBA level. It would be a 6 figure mistake for Bouk. Now is the time for him to move on.
