The Huskies have added Holy Cross transfer R.J. Evans, but it’s apparent that the postseason ban and – perhaps more importantly – Jim Calhoun’s uncertain future is causing players to leave the program while also keeping recruits away. UConn has one signee, New York City’s Omar Calhoun, slated to join the program next season.

Rivals or not, it sucks to see you guys going through this.
The APR thing is an ' joke and will probably be "modified" over time- its just blatantly unfair.
As for JC, I can't see the man leave everything he's built, notwithstanding health reasons, while its going thru this tsunami.
When we had some issues in the early 90's, we bounced back after landing John Wallace.
That's probably what'll have to happen for you guys.
One major recruit, then a coupla years of struggling, and finally a graceful exit by JC once he rights the ship.
Good luck.

Calhoun is out on the road watching Bradley Hayes play.

What does that tell you?

My thoughts haven't really changed. I think Jim stays two more years, gets us back to normal, and hands off the reins from there.

I know, but implications, assumptions and 'the obvious' are not the same as an official statement, unless he has made one that I missed.

Where do you see that? I saw that UConn is watching Hayes, but I haven't seen anything that specifically said that Calhoun is watching him.

He hasnt. Same old , with everything thats going on he's still going to take his sweet time making an announcement. He said he would announce his decision to stay or leave right after the NCAAT. That ain't happening. The program IS falling apart and it' business as usual.

If I'm completely clueless, please let me know, but I'm confused about this 'announcement' thing a lot of people are talking about. I thought I had read a few months back that Calhoun wanted to stay until the program got through this mess and said that he would indeed stay. He still has two years left on his contract, so why does he need to make an announcement?

Are people waiting for Boehiem, Pitino, Williams, Coach K to make announcements?

He has said he is staying in several different ways recently. His having to confirm it every year is just because of the media. He's staying.

JC always reevaluates the decision to come back every year and has for the last 4 years, he didn't decide to come back for last year till Sept. He said in Feb. that he would make up his mind after the NCAAT , earlier then usual, but he hasn't yet. This annual process by him is well documented. Hope that helps.

Granted the NCAA ban hurts and guys got to do what they got to do when they can earn some bucks in the League. However, there is something deeper going on - with guys like Roscoe and Bradley leaving - these aren't bad kids - their likely playing time has gone up big time with guys leaving vs. sitting out a year. Shabazz is staying.....not sure if that is related.

He said that by the champ game weekend he would announce. He created this hype. Said he was meeting with the AD

Too many head games on too many levels and it has come back to bite us. Let's recall that after last season Calhoun literally couldn't drive anyone off the team to open up ships. Now the shoe is on the other foot. What's driving the attitude change other than the obvious out in public domain? I really think the Blaney stint really set the program back in ways some will never know or say publicly.

Chief--are you really blaming Blaney and Shabazz for all the players on the team bailing?

Occam's Razor. Please, use this as a touchstone of your thinking:
  1. Oriakhi unhappy with how he was treated, and didn't want to be banned from postseason
  2. Bradley maybe doesn't think he'll be good enough to get major minutes long term (next year he would, but perhaps he imagined there would be better options than being dunked on by BE bigs all year)
  3. Roscoe wants/needs to play the 3, and notices there really isn't any future for him to play that here (perhaps, too, frustration due to beginning of season and playing time issues).
Those are nice and logical. No need to read into other things (although I do know that is your MO).

Last year he was in pain and didn't know if he could come back.

Read what he said to Amore. He makes it exceedingly clear.

Look, Kevin Freeman thought of leaving too for Roscoe's exact same reasons. He was talked back, but if Freeman--a current UConn coach--had these thoughts, it's hardly surprising that someone else would as well.

Excellent post, IMO. The fact that it is frontcourt guys only that are leaving speaks volumes.

Don't think this has to do with Calhoun retiring/not retiring.

What dose the Great Coach George Blaney have to do with setting the team back?

Your right Chief there is something deeper going on when guys like Roscoe are abandoning ship and Scoe is a loyal person and a team player. Guarantee you that Calhoun is pushing some guys to transfer in order to appease that swine Mark Emmert's agenda to gut UCONN to a bottom feeder stuck with walkons and average players which is just as bad as being banned. After all the transfers and gutting of the team, Mark Emmert will declare MISSION ACCOMPLISHED and will change the rules to let us play this year knowing that we have no chance anyway of making the tournament with the team we will have to put out next year.Calhoun's a competitor and he wants to prove he can win even with the most average of players and teams.

It doesnt make sense why Roscoe would transfer when he would be a guaranteed starter other than Calhoun's offer to him wasnt that appealing. A great guy like Scoe who was recruited to play the 3 and forced to play the 4 in order to get playing time over a chump like Daniels. I bet Roscoe didnt like the way Calhoun has been treating him. Wherever Scoe goes I will always root for him to do well and make the NBA.

Please, Roscoe had plenty of opportunities to play the three last season. What you and others conveniently ignore, is that UConn started the season with a starting lineup of Shabazz-Lamb-Roscoe-Olander-Oriakhi. They struggled, thus Daniels, Boatright, and Drummond received more playing time and kids like Scoe and Oriakhi received less. Jim Calhoun has never promised anybody attending UConn minutes. Roscoe didn't earn those minutes with his play early in the season last year. That led to an ongoing carousel at the small forward spot between Daniels, Giffey, and Roscoe. By the end of the year Roscoe had finally started to become his 2010-11 self and that's why he played so many more minutes at the end of the year.

I love Scoe, but he showed very little from an offensive standpoint at the three position last year. The minute distribution shows that the coaching staff shares my observation.

Calhoun is running off Roscoe to please Emmert and get us reinstated? I congratulate you. Every time you think you don't think this board can discuss a stupider theory ....
