If we’re talking about poaching coaches anyway, Matt Painter should be on that list. Coach at Purdue, has won their conference and conference tourney, and made it to the Sweet 16 multiple times. Really strong winning percentage (over 650%). The only issue with grabbing him is that he’s a Purdue alum so he might not want to leave what is home for him - but he might like coming to a school committed to winning.

The chances of getting Painter to leave his alma mater and the B10 for an AAC job are none and less than none.

Got to agree somewhat. Rhody came apart on O and went into an iso-hero ball mode down the stretch, but they still moved the ball 100% more than KO offense and also actually work the ball into the interior. Their key big man was completely gassed in the end with no legs. But, their D is tenacious and kept them in a position to win. I did like his use of TOs to keep thins under control at key moments....not something Ollie ever had a feel for.

Remember, they were playing Davidson.

I know that’s the tough one... but I don’t know if he’s going to clear the hurdle at Purdue to get to a Final Four. I’m not sure that Purdue as a school is committed to it like we are. So it could be an interesting job for someone with great skills. I also want someone who can coach more broadly than NE. We’re going to need some of these middle of the country people to compete in the AAC. It could also help us come the next round of realignment.

He’s a great coach with none of the baggage some of these others have. He should pop on anyone’s list. Let him tell us he’s not moving. Who wouldn’t want to come in and rebuild one of the best programs in the country?

They pulled the mysterioso hypothetical with the committee, and then they've got e-mails documenting communications back and forth between him and Edsall regarding suggested startng salary. Yeah, they thought at that point the committee had cleared it based on the hypothetical, but they should have been up front about the whole thing with the committee from the start. That's what pissed off the ethics board and why it turned into a three ring circus. That's on Benedict.

I will say the AD was walking a fine line with Edsall if it were put to him as a deal killer if he couldn't get it done, but I believe that's an unknown.

You misunderstood me. What was thrust upon AD Dave was the State advisory committee creating two fictions: 1) that the start date was earlier that the stated contractual start date and 2) that Randy manage's Corey even though his contract states otherwise. Without those two "recharactorization" of the actual terms there is no conflict with CT's ethics rules. The rest of what you wrote is moot.

Eventually Corey and UConn will prevail. The university and AD have stood with Randy and Corey, appropriately in my view.

UConn is a Blue Blood that fell off the map and happens to be in the AAC. If we get back to a top 10 program, our Blue Blood status will come back. I’m not giving up all our prestige because of a few bad seasons and it would be nice if the rest of our fans didn’t either. UNC and IU were laughing stocks when the the wheels fell off. People questioned if UNC was done as a Blue Blood. Don’t accept the narrative, it’s embarrassing and unfair to Calhoun’s legacy to let it go so easily.

If we get a great coach and go to Final Fours, we are unlikely to lose our coach to another school. They will say he is making Final Fours, partially, because he’s at a Blue Blood like UConn.

This is all I got, but it's something:

He's extended 5 years at approx $600k. Both Hurley's and Nate's previous contracts had buyouts of half the remainder of the deal. Figure that's a baseline. So at minimum, it's going to be about $1.5m. I'm guessing they bumped it up a bit but idrk.

From what I've read, it sounds like he wants to stay at Buffalo for awhile anyway. Wife has cancer and has been treating in Buffalo, so that's probably a factor.
