It was thought that Western Europe is kept warmer than it's latitude would suggest because of the Gulf Stream, which shoots warm equatorial waters up along the eastern coast of North America and across the North Atlantic to Europe. But the new study shows how atmospheric circulation helps cool the eastern boundaries of the mid-latitude continents."

Speaking of The Rent, check out the East Hartford Velodrome. They even built it right on the river.
"In this aerial photo it may not look like much but the Stadium in the lower right hand corner is the East Hartford Velodrome.
It was mainly a Stadium for bike racing but it also held other events as well like boxing matches and Football games for the "Hartford Blues" a team mainly played their games as an Independent Team.
The Hartford Blues went by many names during their History from 1924-1947.
But during one glorious year- 1926, they were a member of the NFL.
And on one glorious afternoon- September 26. 1926 the New York Giants traveled to Hartford to take on the Hartford Blues.
It was the First game of the Season for the Giants and they would prevail 21-0 in front of a whopping 6500 people.

The Stadium did not last long as it was built in 1926 and torn down in 1929.
The East Hartford Velodrome was a velodrome in East Hartford, Connecticut. In its three-year lifespan, it hosted football and boxing events before it was demolished in 1929.
The Hartford Blues played their 1926 and 1927 seasons at the velodrome, a then-new bicycle track located across the Connecticut River in East Hartford. The grass football field barely fit inside the wooden track. Its capacity was 8,000 spectators.

The Velodrome has hosted many boxing events. One event was main evented by Connecticut's own Christopher "Battling" Battalino, when he defeated Archie Rosenberg by knock-out.
Throwback Thursday: The East Hartford Velodrome was a bicycle race track and sporting event arena built in 1926 and torn down in 1929. It stood approximately where Founders Plaza is today. In addition to bicycle racing, the Velodrome hosted boxing events as well as Hartford's NFL team, the Hartford Blues, during the 1926 and 1927 seasons. The photo itself comes from an aerial survey taken of the town in 1928.
