That will be a huge benefit to Northern Europe to cool them during global warming while we sweat it out until the ice age returns :)

And they won't be complaining. I'm in central Netherlands right now and they had temps between 85-90 last week through the weekend. And they were less than happy. Back to mid-70s for highs right now and it's glorious. 17 hours of sunlight and temps between high 50's to mid 70's is just incredible.

Jealous:)

Answer is: the “Gulf Stream” even keeps Iceland and Norway warmer in winter.
"Warm air, cold air
It was thought that Western Europe is kept warmer than it's latitude would suggest because of the Gulf Stream, which shoots warm equatorial waters up along the eastern coast of North America and across the North Atlantic to Europe. But the new study shows how atmospheric circulation helps cool the eastern boundaries of the mid-latitude continents."

""It's not that the warm Gulf Stream waters substantially heat up Europe," said study team member Yohai Kaspi of Caltech. "But the existence of the Gulf Stream near the U.S. coast is causing the cooling of the northeastern United States.""

The Rent.
Speaking of The Rent, check out the East Hartford Velodrome. They even built it right on the river.

"In this aerial photo it may not look like much but the Stadium in the lower right hand corner is the East Hartford Velodrome.
It was mainly a Stadium for bike racing but it also held other events as well like boxing matches and Football games for the "Hartford Blues" a team mainly played their games as an Independent Team.
The Hartford Blues went by many names during their History from 1924-1947.
But during one glorious year- 1926, they were a member of the NFL.
And on one glorious afternoon- September 26. 1926 the New York Giants traveled to Hartford to take on the Hartford Blues.
It was the First game of the Season for the Giants and they would prevail 21-0 in front of a whopping 6500 people.
Scoring :
Quarter Tm Detail NYG HRT
2nd Quarter-Giants- Jack Hagerty 12 yard pass from Jack McBride (Jack McBride kick) 7-0 Giants
3rd Quarter-Giants- Jack McBride 1 yard rush (Jack McBride kick) 14-0
Giants -John Alexander fumble recovery in end zone (Paul Hogan kick) 21-0 Giants.
The Stadium did not last long as it was built in 1926 and torn down in 1929.
The East Hartford Velodrome was a velodrome in East Hartford, Connecticut. In its three-year lifespan, it hosted football and boxing events before it was demolished in 1929.
The Hartford Blues played their 1926 and 1927 seasons at the velodrome, a then-new bicycle track located across the Connecticut River in East Hartford. The grass football field barely fit inside the wooden track. Its capacity was 8,000 spectators.
Football
The Velodrome was the home for the National Football League's Hartford Blues for their 1926 and 1927 seasons.
Boxing
The Velodrome has hosted many boxing events. One event was main evented by Connecticut's own Christopher "Battling" Battalino, when he defeated Archie Rosenberg by knock-out.
Throwback Thursday: The East Hartford Velodrome was a bicycle race track and sporting event arena built in 1926 and torn down in 1929. It stood approximately where Founders Plaza is today. In addition to bicycle racing, the Velodrome hosted boxing events as well as Hartford's NFL team, the Hartford Blues, during the 1926 and 1927 seasons. The photo itself comes from an aerial survey taken of the town in 1928.
Go Giants!!"

Lake of the Ozarks - Missouri's most popular lake destination features more than 1,100 miles of shoreline – that's more shoreline than the coast of California.

The Rent.
Yeah but it's like 25 minutes farther from Storrs. That's why you would never go to a football game in Storrs from the moon unless the state made major infrastructure improvements.

Until the melting freshwater from Greenland's glaciers disrupts it, inflicting much colder temps on northern Europe.
That was always the thought process right? If the Gulf Stream gets disrupted then Europe would dramatically cool to "Canada like" temperatures. Based upon the most recent theory though the Gulf Stream isn't actually keeping Europe warm it is keeping North America cool. So if the gulf stream collapsed the northern US and Canada get European like temperatures.

I'm in central Netherlands for work right nearly due easy of London.

It starts getting light around 5:00am and doesn’t get fully dark until 10:30.
Yeah, I'm a tick further south in central Germany. We were sitting outside at 10pm last night when the lights started turning on.
The downside is that the birds start chattering at 4:30 am.

Hilltop is the highest point between Boston & NYC. At least, I've been told, and it makes sense.

The geographer in me is loving the trend of this thread- way more interesting than pizza...

René-Levasseur Island, situated in Lake Manicouagan in Quebec, Canada is larger in area than the lake itself. It is the world’s second largest lake island. View attachment 89356
I was going to ask if there was the opposite, an island containing a lake larger than itself. Then I found this:

"Here’s a winning question for your next trivia night: Where is the world’s largest island-in-a-lake-on-an-island-in-a-lake-on-an-island? According to stories published here and here, the distinction currently goes to a nameless isle within Victoria Island in Canada’s Nunavut Territory."

Another fun fact - Canada’s Nunavut territory is further south than Syracuse University. Probably.

Yeah but they are always killing people there. More dangerous than Chicago if you watched that show on Netflix
