Dont be the person who:
leaves the basket of candy outside with a "take one" sign, turns off the lights and watches TV in their room. Stop being scared of humans. The pandemic is over.

Time to pass out candy...

I live in a drive-in neighborhood in Stamford. The North Stamfordites who live on twisty, winding dark roads descend on my area, create traffic (and associated dangerous walking conditions) and their obnoxious kids, litter my yard with wrappers and literally walk into my foyer when I open the door. We buy about 150 pieces of candy and we usually get 175 trick or treaters, 80% of whom live at least two miles away. Fun night.
Question for this year, with Halloween falling on Friday: Will you close down before sunset?

Yessir. Just discussed with my wife earlier this week. Porch light goes off at 5:30 after the little ones get their early trick-or-treating in with their parents… and we are sitting down to Shabbat dinner.

I don't know, man. About halfway through the teaming hordes of kids that show up at our place, that sounds like a pretty tempting idea.

Live in DC’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. We currently have 1000 pieces of candy - mostly Twix, KitKat, Milky Way, butterfinger, nerds - but there’s a lot of variety. Hope it’s enough. Expecting probably 500+ “kids” since it’s on a Friday night. Some years I have to give away the candy my kids collected trick / treating.

What did you buy to hand out?

What're your favorite candies or treats?

I was absolutely dumbfounded to see our bucket of treats filled up with cheez ballz packets. There's like three cheez ballz in each packet and I have a bucket of like 100 of them. I have no idea what Mrs. Diesel was thinking buying them, but I am certain no matter how right I am in critiquing and ridiculing her choice, that conversation will not end up to my benefit. Only good thing is the wrapper looks pretty normal so a kid just reaching in to the bucket at night won't know their disappointment right away.

Mod Note: Please don't say where you live.
Have forever stayed with the basics with no complaints, adding Nerdz.

Snickers
Reese's
Milky Way
Peanut M&Ms

I will gladly be that person and I have absolutely no shame doing so. I’ll answer the door until 6ish and let the little little ones say trick or treat but after that I’m tapping out.

Or maybe it’s because you are taking your own kids out but still want to contribute to the neighbors’ kids’ experience?

tons of homes over-the-top decorated for Halloween in the areas around us. Since when did Clark Griswold start doing massive displays for Halloween?
when my daughter was in high school a classmate of hers had a Halloween Party at their house where they hired actors to play Characters from Horror movies. There was Michael Myers, Jason, Freddy Krueger, and my favorite the Leprechaun.

If you really want your neighbors to hate you, find some old school (not soft) Now and Laters to hand. They break teeth and pull out fillings!!

I wish I could share the videos. One of my old Manchester classmates lives outside Orlando. She posts videos of Halloween at her house and it's like the line at Walmart on Black Friday. Hundreds, possibly thousands of kids. There's no gap, just endless kids for two hours.

I saw on a reel that people are putting potatos in their candy bowls and little kids actually want them over candy.

I won't be home tonight or I would 1000% try this. Can someone try it out and report back?

I did this last year and none of the kids took any. This year I will try whole potatoes and not mashed.
