OT: Boneyard Annual Halloween Treat Thread

I saw on a reel that people are putting potatos in their candy bowls and little kids actually want them over candy.

I won't be home tonight or I would 1000% try this. Can someone try it out and report back?

I just saw that on the news. It's pretty stupid. Any kid who would be happy to get a potato would've been thrilled to get an apple or a box of raisins.

I did this last year and none of the kids took any. This year I will try whole potatoes and not mashed.
I've told the story on The Boneyard before, but I tried to warn a new neighbor about the masses of kids who come to our neighborhood. They literally bus people in. I said it doesn't matter how much candy you have you need more. He said I think we're fine.

About 7:30 he called me up and said "CL you have to give me a couple of bags of candy! I'm handing out cans of lima beans over here!"

That is a great way to get rid of Lima Beans. You sure don't want to eat them yourself.

We get 75-125 kids usually. We hand out big bars we buy at Costco. Trick or treat is 4-7. We get the neighborhood kids first. It will be 50ish tonight so I will bring out the patio heater we bought during Covid. Keeps us nice and warm. We set up chairs and hang out on our front walk. Usually the neighborhood parents will stick around and have cocktail. It’s a fun evening.

My next door neighbor does this and gives out cans of craft beer to the neighborhood adults. As a craft beer geek, I find this act quite neighborly 🍻

Less chocolate in the candy then there used to be. Wrappers now say "chocalate candy" instead of "milk chocolate". Not allowed to use the term. The Cocoa is too expensive and hard to come by due to drought and heat in West Africa so more sugar and more oil and less cocoa butter.

I had a neighbor years back who brought a little shifter glass with him as he escorted his kids around, begging a little taste here and there on his rounds.

I, and I am sure other dad's, were envious of his enterprise.

First group just came. My wife and I work from home. Rather than ignoring them, we did the bucket and wrote "Take Two Happy Halloween!" This time of day it's usually the little kids. with their parents. This time, the first group was middle school kids. Bastards took the full bowl! Thankfully, I deliberately didn't fill the bowl. I have the little idiots looking at my Ring doorbell the whole time. I won't post it on the town facebook page, but it would be funny. Half the people would talk about the problems with today's youth and the other half would scold me for doxing the poor kids.

EDIT: 5 other groups have come since then. Mostly middle school kids. All took two each.

Does anyone place red balloons on sewer grates? A guy at work left early to buy red balloons to tie to the drains. I know it’s related to the movie “It” but first person I heard of that does this.

Just went to CVS. Candy was 50% off. Neighborhood kids better like $100,000 bars because they're my favorite so that's what they're getting.

Most USA candy bars are made with corn syrup instead of sugar. That is why I like the same candy bars from the UK better than from USA where they use sugar. For example Kit Kat Bar from UK made with sugar compared to Kit Kat bar from USA made with corn syrup.

I had to add to the cheez balls. And Mrs. Diesel had some Fun Dips. I fel better now.
