Was Nutsack Narduzzi even number 1? Did Warde play us all? Is he actually in the Virgin Islands?

I think Narduzzi couldn't even name 4 varieties of donuts.

LOVE THIS HIRE!!!

I never saw this coming. My unqualified opinion was ho-hum on Narduzzi and less than thrilled with Lembo. Diaco on the other hand is a way better choice than I expected.

With a Diaco here to take over the D, hopefully Weist sticks around and finishes what he started.

Fuch's, you ready to return to the better place?

Bruce Feldman: Notre Dame DC Diaco to be New UConn Head Coach

Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco will be the new head coach at UConn, a source told CBS Wednesday. Diaco has agreed to a five-year deal that starts at $1.5 million per year.

The 40-year-old New Jersey native won the 2012 Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach, becoming the first Irish assistant coach to ever be honored with the award. His D ranked second in the FBS in scoring defense in '12 - allowing just 12.77 points per game. Diaco helped spark the Irish to a BCS title game appearance last season. This fall, ND went 8-4 and ranked No. 32 in scoring defense and No. 45 in total defense.

Ollie, Cavanaugh and Diaco. I know Ollie needs an asterick next to it, but not a bad year of hires all things considered. Actually a pretty damn good year.

All fit Warde's now well-established MO of hiring from proper stock.

He doesn't hire "Do you know who I am?" people. He hires "You know who I am." people. To be expected from a UM alum.

Let us know if you think TJ would still be a better HC than Diaco.

(Sorry, had to bust your bawls a little bit)

Yes, he would.

I'll let ya know when Diaco loses to BYU.

Can't wait to see the bonuses in contract . . . . 'only' $1.5 million a year (for 1st year of 5 anyway) is very surprising.

Diaco: Well, I'm off to Storrs.
Warde: Bob, we've prepared a plane for you.
Diaco: Plane? That won't be necessary.

I like the hire. He doesn't have an attacking defense, but they've been pretty good every year he's been there, so he must do something right.

I imagine that $1.5 is the pay for year one in the $9 million over five years that was reported Monday. I also believe that if things work out well, in a couple of years that contract will be ripped up and replaced with a better one.

awesome, I hope he keeps Weist and Foley, he hardly has to touch the offense.

As an RU fan, I wanted to chime in that this seems like a really terrific hire! Diaco was a guy that many of us had hoped would have been brought in after Schiano left (but we probably couldn't have paid him the $1.5 million you guys are rightfully shelling out). I'm sure he'll help to turn things around from the Pasqualoni era pretty quickly!

(A special thank-you also for leaving ND without a DC for our bowl game.)

Diaco did a good job with ND's defense last year. Not so much this year, but we got hammered with injuries to the D-line and linebackers. No idea what his O would look like, but it will probably mirror Kelly's. A lot of ND fans thought Diaco was next in line for the ND job, so maybe a little HC experience will help that. Good luck with him, he seems like a good guy.
