Here's a playoff semi-final game from May 4, 5 months ago. I've placed the video as it enters the game. For many you'll recognize the #32 she's defending against at this point, Jessica Shepard (6'4), the former Notre Dame, the same one who had a very good season in 2023 with the Minnesota Lynx (attachment). The Umana Reyer team she was up against won the title in Italy, with 3 straight wins in the final. The other tall player, Awak Sabit Kuier, wearing #34, was also playing in the WNBA in 2023 with the Dallas Wings.

The box score is also attached, and you can click on the players' names to see their 2024 playoff stats. I looked at the box scores for the various playoff games, and there was one 21-points game that I would have liked to see and post for you, but I wasn't able to find it. In this game she lacks finishing, especially close to the basket, but you can see her creating on the perimeter with beautiful passes, and when she picks up a defensive rebound, the counter-attack that follows is impressive. In the second half, she enters the game at 59:42 on the video line.

Speaking of correct spelling, here is a quick and dirty lesson in Spanish orthography.

Her name is pronounced Key NYOWN ace. The ñ is like the ny in canyon. Because her last name ends with a “z”, the next to last syllable, the penultimate, requires an acute accent: Blanca Quiñónez.

If it were to end with an “s”, it wouldn't need the accent, and the pronunciation would remain the same. That's because Spanish words ending in a vowel or the letters “n” and “s” have the penultimate syllable accented in speech. Words ending in consonants have the emphasis on the final syllable, unless another syllable has a written accent.

The article posted by @Zarathustra, and originally by @From Canada above, has it written correctly in the headline, but screws it up in the translated text.

“Blanca Quiñónez, la basquetbolista de Milagro que juega en Italia”

So, to answer @donalddoowop's question, her first name is
Blanca. Her last name, with two diacritics, is Quiñónez.

Feel free to copy and paste. ñ ó
Think I'll just call her Key.

I am not in the program obviously. Just sharing my thoughts as a fan.

This recruitment process reminds me of Inês.
I disagree 100%. Ines was not recruited by high d1 programs. She was a late addition just before the school year began.
It was made to give us some depth.

Blanca, on the other hand, looks like a future starter and a huge playmaker.

Ines was an emergency desperation last second recruit, the best we could get under extremely limited options. We were already thin at guard and then found out Paige would miss the entire season. at that point late in the summer, the high school recruits had already decided, as had the portal prospects. The only option was a foreign player who already had a visa lined up, who could commit without a visit, and be there in about a week.

Under the circumstances she was probably a good pickup, someone who might have to be used if we suffered multiple injuries, which of course we did, and she played relevant minutes the tail end of The Princeton game and most of the Maryland one. The alternative was probably a walk-on, so she was an upgrade compared to that and our choices were exceptionally limited.

I’m glad Inês came to Storrs, and I am also glad that Geno and the team seem to have done well by her. I think she doesn’t regret these two years and I hope she thrives at Gonzaga. She’s family now.

Blanca is a wing right? Is she the athletic wing we need after AG leaves?
Blanca is a more talented ball handler and 3-level scorer than Aubrey. I view her as a Big Guard who will ultimately replace Paige in the Husky’s lineup.

Blanca was not in uniform yesterday in her team's victory. Here's the first paragraph of news from the league about yesterday's game. The original link in Italian follows as an attachment. The league calendar is also attached. You can click on squadre at the top right to open the drop-down menu and click on La Molisana Magnolia Campobasso to get the schedule of its team only. The next game is next Sunday, October 13.

Two out of two in the roster of a contest, basketball-wise, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Without bothering Stevenson's pen, La Molisana Magnolia Campobasso threads its second consecutive success (in as many games played) and maintains its position at the top of the Techfind Serie A1 of women's basketball, going to conquer Tortona and imposing nine on Derthona of the former Marangoni and Premasunac in the novo of a contest in which - after a first half with some highs and lows cost dearly - between the third and fourth periods the defensive intensity rises again and also the attack shines a very intense light, so much so as to send as many as five elements in double figures on the score sheet closed with miss 'double-double' Kunaiyi top scorer with 21 points and ten rebounds, a twenty for Polish Zięmborska, thirteen points apiece for the Sara tandem (Madera and Scalia) and ten points coming off the bench for captain Trimboli. All this, by the way, on a night when the #fiororidacciaio were without Ecuador's 'starlet' Blanca Quiñonez, who remained in Campobasso due to a swollen knee.

All I have to say is "Bubble wrap." Lots and lots of bubble wrap over the coming year.

Paige's place in the lineup may not be at guard. It may be a forward or a center who takes up her role. Wink wink.

[I mean Sarah or Jana could become the leaders of the team.]

Here's some not-so-reassuring news from Blanca's official team website yesterday. The original article in Italian is attached.

BLANCA OUT Among the Campobassanas, Ecuadorian star Blanca Quiñonez will be absent again, as her knee problem is likely to keep her away from the parquet for some time.

sad to say but not that surprising.........she's a UConn commit...........the good news is that hopefully, it was nothing too serious and she will be back to 100% by the time she reaches Storrs.....:)

When I was in the Corp, at the chow table, there was a dessert table with Pineapple Upside Down Cake which I loved until I finally got tired of eating it. I'm starting to feel the same way about phrases such as "tough, skilled, athletic, competitive", and, "We really needed someone like that" only to see them either transfer or sit on the bench for four years until we are up thirty points with one minute left to play. I now wait for the end of their freshmen or sophomore year to find out just what their value is to the team.

@RSHERMVIKES even Paige motored in here with an ankle we were told way after the fact would need the surgery it finally recieved. Yes, I like I bet many, have grown weary of the injury plaque we have suffered and I'd sort like to see them at least get here in one piece. It seems that a fair number of other programs have been able to pull that off.

We dodged that for a long time. It was bound to get us at some point.

She plays for Campobasso?!? I havent read through the thread, but I assume someone has noted that Hartford has a lot of descendants from Campobasso province (town of Sepino in particular).

I remember that her ankle issue was known in her junior HS season. I think she missed 1 or 2 games to rest it. I remember that there was a story somewhere about how she helped coach the freshman team while she was out.
UConn has no monopoly on injuries. Geno recruits highly motivated achievers who play BB 12 months a year for 10 years. A lot of them have ACL's in high school.

A link to her stats in her first 8 games. Keep in mind that this is a pro team with most players well into their 20's. One player was a SEC DPOY and there's someone named Mabrey on the team.

RockyMTblue2- - I just turned 77 in September so you'll have to forgive me as my mind is floating away, but you mention me above in your statement, what is that in relation to?
