All this BS about what was said or what wasn't is irrelevant.
If Orr or anyone else is so ignorant to use N word, they should be asked to leave the arena or stadium and I'm quite sure that most people in nearby seats would speak up and make sure it happened. Nothing Orr did or said during this incident invited the level of aggression shown by Smart. Bottom line, unless Smart was grabbed, struck or kicked by Orr, and there is no evidence to promote that he was, then Smart had no business pushing him and was wrong.
Don't try to argue that Orr has done it before either, that's like arguing that a guy that has had a couple of past automobile accidents damaged your car because he was in the parking lot at the time. Orr's past has nothing to do with the current incident and if it does, then it could be argued that Smarts action was premeditated. No one wants to go there!
As to all the hand wringing going on here about verbal abuse........have you BEEN to a Pitt or GT game at Gampel or the XL Center before? How about an old BC or Providence game (especially at the Dunk)? I've heard stuff spewed by UConn fans that would shame a sailor and I'm positive that I'm as bad as the next guy. It got to be so bad I stopped bringing my son to big games until he was 13 or so. The Rent is no different nor is any other arena or stadium in the world.
If you don't want to hear swearing, insults (a lot worse than "piece of crap") or personal attacks.........................STAY HOME! Drunk people do dumb stuff and sporting events and drinking go hand in hand. Throw in long standing heated rivalries and stuff happens!
Finally, to those of you who condemned Orr because he's "old, fat, white and a Texan" and there are a whole bunch of you on the board. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. If that's all it takes in your world to be convicted of hate speech, with no supporting evidence, then I'd sure hate to be you when a good portion of you are that guy (short of the Texan part) in 20 - 30 years.
BTW, some of the nicest and most tolerant people I've ever met in my life are Texans.
