Big Monday...

This game will test the theory that Tenn always gets the breaks from the refs at home. UT has been called for 287 fouls while their opponents have been called for 345. But ND has been called for 264; their opponents 332.

I admire what Skylar has done to us over the years, even when she had difficulty; in crunch time she was a winner.
I also admire the coaching and grit that has enabled Notre Dame to win a bunch of these recent games with us; all the other crap is superfluous.

I especially admire that Holly has taken over an extraordinary and hallowed program, last year on the rocks, and has brought it along in its first steps towards respectability, in a coaching assignment in which anyone would be expected to fail, with the Maestra looking over her shoulder every day; an enviable performance.

Can't root for the evil empire.

The lesser of two weevils, indeed. More like the lesser of two cockroaches.

Master and Commander fan?

I confess complete ignorance on the topic, but I suspect what it's about enough to dissuade me from investing the energy in a Google search.

You still don't "get" what being a sports fan is.

"But then we thought about the game, the game, the game..." Damn Yankees, 1957

First off, interesting thread and some of it's actually a bit funny. As for this post, you should do this foul comparison for every top team. I think you would be surprised in the results.

1. You are right and I am wrong. I am big time wrong.

2. have you really done that comparison?

I haven't, but last year, someone compared all of the top teams. At that time, I think UConn actually had the largest margin of difference. No top team was excluded from having a healthy advantage. TN's wasn't the worst and may have toward the lower end of the top teams.

I did do it for a number of teams whose players were mentioned in the thread about All Americans. Only Penn State had been called for more fouls than their opponents ((333-308). Other teams numbers were Baylor, by far the best, (224-336) ; Stanford (248-264) ; UConn (240-275) ; Maryland (285-319) ; Duke (266-275) Tenn 287-345) ; ND (264-322) and Delaware (234-272). Not sure where the surprise is.

The old Evil Empire or the new one? The original one lost their empire. :)

I thinks it is possible to root for an Irish loss without rooting for a Vol win.

So should we refer to them as the "Evil Has Beens?"

The lesser of too weevils is a pun made by the lead character Jack Aubrey in the series by Patrick O'Brian.

Great reading, I highly recommend them.

ND is, hands down, the evil empire of college sports. None of the crazy reorganization of college sports happens if they join the Big East for football. Even though they don't deserve the status, there isn't a BE football program that would have left a conference with ND in it and none of the raiding that began with the BE would have happened. Certainly not after BC, VTech and Miami left and those schools, certainly BC would have begged to come back. ND lived off the conference and gave nothing in return If UT has a virtue it is that they are not Notre Dame. The Irish can't lose enough as far as I'm concerned. Not to mention UConn might jump them in the rankings. Unfortunately I think I'm not going to like the results of the game.

Agree. One cannot be a UCONN fan and root for TN.
One cannot want ND to win anything if one is a UConn fan. If one hasn't noticed, ND had no issue with leaving UConn sports to wallow. On the other hand, hating UT is a little like not buying a Toyota because of WW II. Ancient history and we did quite well after the war ended in both cases.

Where I come from, you either love ND, want your kids to go there, and your daughter to marry a Domer, or you wouldn't wear green even on St. Patrick's Day for fear you would be taken for a ND fan.

So, I am firmly on the side of Dove on this topic, even tho I come from a place where they dye the river green for St. Paddy's Day.

You need to read again. I didn't say one should cheer for ND to win, rather for TN to lose.....badly. One cannot cheer for TN to win, under any circumstances and be a UCONN fan. Turn in your UCONN fan card you, you proprietor of evil.

ND women's basketball has nothing to do with ND football.

And wrong again. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Go Irish, whenever you play the Voles. I have hated them for too long....
