They needed help badly. Both players are necessary depth, but overall it’s still pretty pathetic how badly Sha has done on the recruiting trail. I would think that’s due to NIL more than anything else, but the difference between he and English’s recruiting is night and day when as in game coaches they aren’t far apart really.

Garwey Dual looks like filling the roster just to fill the roster. He was #41 in the 2023 ESPN recruiting rankings FWIW. Hopefully Shaheen can get the most out of him because he had a rough freshman year at Providence.

Part of Sha’s recruiting pitch was “we see a lot of Kadary in your game and I think we can get the most out of your potential”.

Kid is a tremendous athlete. Many thought he was a one and done. He a strange shooting motion but certainly big upside

Overall, looking at their roster, they are pretty rich with 6'4-6'7 pieces, but lack PG depth behind Harmon and are incredibly green at the 5.

Patrick is the last of Iowa Coach McCaffery's 3 sons who have played for him there over the last 10 years. Patrick I'd a good ayer and I believe that he will certainly start at Butler. He is a good addition to Thad Motta's team. I believe that he was dating Caitlin Clark as seniors last year.
 
We are in the part of the recruiting cycle where Spanish sources are being translated to break news. I am always leery of Eruos making an immediate impact, but I don't see how you bring in a guy who will be 21 before the season and not expect production right away.

Gytis Nemeikša didn't exactly light the world on fire last season, did he? He came in as a senior. But this guy is playing at a higher level in Europe at least.

I don't know how Fedor Zugic will be for Creighton, but nothing is automatic.
 
It sort of feels like NIL is drawing international kids vs staying in Euro pro leagues. Impresses me that so many international kids can qualify to enter USA colleges and survive being educated in a language different than their primary country. Even after multiple years of classes I could never have gone to school in a foreign country and understood the first thing that was going on. These kids are giving teams depth and occasional impact players. The Villanova pickups look excellent.

Most European kids speak very good English. In most places it’s taught early in school. I actually think many kids coming here find they are more advanced and find the schooling easier than back home

Unfortunately the school component simply doesn't matter. They aren't coming to be educated. They don't need to understand one word of what's going on in a classroom. They just need to understand the plays the coach is drawing up. Nobody even tries to pretend that's a thing any longer. I don't know if that makes it better or worse, one could probably make points on both sides of that ledger. It is what it is.
 
Clips of the Georgetown big are very much like Wolf from Yale/Michigan. Johnson can run him to death but the guy lets it fly from the arc, drives, and passes fluidly at 290lbs and 7'. Very perimeter oriented stretch 5 offensively.
 
Until the music stops and there is some type of cap on NIL, it seems to me that there will be more overall talent in college basketball. Even those that were skipping college will probably play a year of college ball make there first million or more then head for the draft.

As someone said in this thread education has taken a back seat to money. Or more accurately money is now recognized as much more important than education. Probably always was that way for most elite athletes but now it is ok to actually say it out loud.

It's always been the case, there has just always been a subsection of fans that believed it wasn't the case.
