Big East Transfer Portal

Just if anyone wondered:

2023 Men’s U19 National Team includes Mark Armstrong, Tobe Awaka (transferred after mediocre sophomore year), Omaha Biliew (transferred after mediocre freshman year), Kylan Boswell (transferred after a mediocre sophomore year), Myles Colvin (mediocre freshman year), Eric Dailey Jr. (transfer after decent freshman year), Dylan Harper (incoming freshman), Ian Jackson (incoming freshman), Tre Johnson (incoming freshman), Ven-Allen Lubin (in transfer portal, I think), Asa Newell (incoming freshman) and Cody Williams (NBA entrant after very good freshman year off the bench for Colorado).

2022 Men's U18 Americas Team includes: Seth Trimble (mediocre year at UNC), Castle (duh), Eric Dailey Jr. (see above), Jared McCain (Very good year at Duke, NBA draft entrant), Ty Rodgers (mediocre sophomore year), Kanaan Carlyle (decent year for Stanford before transferring), Kel'el Ware (Decent sophomore year, NBA entrant), Cam Witmore (NBA), Anthony Black (NBA - kinda), Brandon Garrison (transferring after solid freshman year), GG Jackson (NBA), and of course, Mark Armstrong

Castle aside (UConn bias) that team doesn't exactly scream NBA stars. The 2023 team was just super young for the top talent, or not that good so far.
in regards to the guys that were freshmen this year it tracks with how terrible this class was overall, one of the worst freshman classes that I can remember in quite some time

This sucks and I honestly hate it.

Shaheen has been doing an amazing job and he’s losing his best player now only because Seton Hall can’t pay him. This shouldn’t be a thing and is absolutely terrible for coaches and the sport.
Richmond played well against UConn.
My take is he plays well when he wants to play well and that's mainly in the marquee games.

I didn't watch all their NIT games but in one of them he looked as if he didn't want to be there, Seton Hall fell behind but then, late in the game, he took over and they won.

He's like the smartest kid in the class. Bored to tears because the other kids are not as sharp and take longer to "get things" but he'll ace the tests and the SAT's.

On court that is a heck of a pickup to replace Alexander. Offensively you could argue Pop is better, though Alexander is better defensively.

BTW:
Some reporting Duke has reached out to Richmond and Poplar.
Scheyer's in full panic mode. He's got a roster that looks great to the casual fans because of all the stars but there's no experience left and the guards are nothing to boast about. In fact, Mason Gillis may be their new key to winning next year.

Imagine going from players like Grant Hill who played hard all the time, and within a team structure, to a guy like KR who plays when he wants to play and doesn't exactly fit the Dukie image.

In other news, Marquette is the only team I can think of that has neither gained nor lost a single player in the portal.

With Kolek to the NBA, if the season started today, all 12 of their scholarship players would be homegrown picks Shaka Smart added out of HS.
That's an interesting stat but makes me wonder if he's being pig headed about staying with what he's comfortable with or if he's not realizing the times have changed.

They've way under performed their seeding the past two years and that can only go on for so long before the fans get restless and the league gets irritated about "shares" being lost.

Updated Transfer Tracker...........but not quite up to today.

Another nice pick up for Depaul in Layden Blocker. He was a pretty high four star freshman last year, in the Nowell range. Didn’t get a ton of burn but Arkansas fans were clamoring for him to get more minutes and bummed he left.
Yeah, Holtmann did a very good job on the portal in spite of taking over a team that has been awful.

Here's the list of all of DePaul's transfers:

My guess of starters:

  • Layden Blocker 6’2 175 SO from Arkansas, 4p, 1a, 13 mpg
  • Jacob Meyer 6’2 195 SO from Coastal Carolina, 15.7p, 5.1r, 2.6a, 40 3P%
  • Isaiah Rivera 6’5 210 GR from UIC, 15.4p, 4.2r, 1.8a, 41.6 3P%, 77 FT%
  • JJ Traynor 6’8 190 GR from Louisville, 10p, 5r, 37 3P%,
  • David Skogman 6’10 235 GR from Davidson, 13.3p, 5r, 47 3P% 25 mpg

Bench:
  • Troy D’Amico 6’7 212 SR from Southern Illinois, 9.3p, 3.7r, 2.6a, 36.4 3P% in 32.3 mpg
  • CJ Gunn 6’5 175 JR from Indiana, 13 mpg
  • Pat Suemnick 6’8 235 GR from West Virginia, 4p, 3r, 14 mpg
  • NJ Benson 6’8 225 JR from Southern Illinois, 8.6p, 7.9r, 1.6b, 63 FG%
  • Conor Enright 6’1 180 JR from Drake, 7p, 3r, 3a, 1s, 44 3P%
  • David Thomas 6’2 200 SO from Mercer 11p, 2.3, 40 3P%
Blocker is a bad shooter, but he's surrounded by shooters, making him a candidate to leave the conference in assists.

Also surrounded by bad defenders. Every other starter had a negative D-BPR last season. I can't see them defending anybody as a team this year. Which was also Holtmann's problem at Ohio State, so it's not like he will coach them up.

They’re going to play great defense, but I’m expecting a lot of ugly rockfights from the Johnnies next season.
Do they have any legit players in the front court? No depth there at all don't get why Goodman is saying they should be a top 10-20 team

They do have a thin frontcourt. Definitely going to be a guard/wing oriented group. Richmond, Smith, and Luis all have big usage rates, Scott should be their floor spacer at the 4, and for bigs I expect mostly rim running. I see shooting as a major weakness, but I do think they have a chance to be elite defensively and they have a lot of willing passers/playmakers.

Yeah, it's going to be an interesting lineup for sure.

If the season starts today, here's their nine-man rotation:
  • Deivon Smith & Kadary Richmond- 30+ mpg backcourt
  • Aaron Scott, RJ Luis and Brady Dunlap - combine to play all 3/4 minutes. Personally, I love Aaron Scott and see him getting close to 30 mpg at the 4. So basically, these three will play the 80 minutes at the 4
  • Vincent Iwuchukwu and Zuby Ejiofor share the 5 spot.
  • Battle betewen Simeon Wilcher and Jaiden Glover for the first guard off the bench.
Rock Fight City.

Anderson was pretty horrible at Boise St after being pretty poor at UC San Diego, so it'll take some coaching up from Miller.

Yep. No wonder the post quotes his gaudy he Azerbaijan FIBA U20 European Championship numbers instead.

Everybody is assuming Shulga picked VCU over Nova, but he might not have been admitted to Nova and chose to return where he knew he had eligibility. Either way, Nova should be terrible next season and everybody knows Neptune will be canned.

Nova fans think this was a result of the impending Wooga Poplar commitment and he wants to run the offense

Could be true, could be their way of coping. Poplar is a Philly guy, and they are expected to get him. Still, that roster has some pretty big holes on it.

the jig is up, everyone's realizing the big east is not the place to be. half the teams still have several available scholarships still! sad!

broke schools! tired fanbases! the future is NOT looking good!
