I won't doubt Pitino yet, but seriously who is even on St Johns roster for next year?

Diop seemed like he was a Johnnie and a lot top players off the board right now.

Perhaps their strategy of being the highest bidder (Repole) has caught up to them since more teams now have deeper pockets. It’s why Hurley’s team building method was always the more sustainable model than Rick’s.

This is a weird outcome. It is unlikely there are many teams that can outbid St. John’s. This was bad targeting, unless that 5 year thing will pass for next year.

Agent is familiar with a lot of Gonzaga players, this one makes sense. Sometimes, the players don’t go for more money.
 
Also keep in mind if/when the 5 in 5 rule is passed some of their exiting players may become eligible (after a slew of lawsuits). Ejiofor could be a guy that tries that route.

The NCAA has come out and said multiple times in the last week that this year's senior class will not be part of the new rule. Now I imagine lawsuits will still occur...

The timing on it all seems problematic - for something that would not have impacted the sport until following next year, would have seemed smart to wait until after the draft, etc to get this out there.

They have, and also think they know they’ll be in for a line of lawsuits this year. But if they feel one rough, full year (just about) sets the standard for the future they’ll live with it.

It def is bad timing, as I said above likely a near term concession to establish the rule.

Cooley has no idea what he's doing - when your entire roster is a mass exodus, anything you're doing is a not a strategic rebuild, it's a desperation to have a roster and downgrade. The tape is likely out on him at this point and I doubt he pulls much real talent anymore.

Who are these "Euro's" you're even talking about? As far as I'm aware the only guy they've brought over from Europe this off season is Ellis, who most expect to be a great player next year.

Are you counting Prey as the "Euro" at the 5 spot?

They also brought in Avery Brown which is a solid pickup

No idea how good either are, but that doesn't strike me as a 5 that is nearly as good at last year StJ.

This Ellis kid, a 23 yo freshman, is pretty much Pitino being the crud he is.
