Not a player injury, but the committee gave Syracuse a break a few years ago when Boeheim was suspended and they went 5-4 or 4-5. The chair of the committee said on CBS that they would judge Syracuse by the team that would be playing in the NCAA tournament (i.e. with Boeheim).I don't know how much of a boost the "we were missing a guy" excuse gives team in the Selection Committee room. Creighton can obviously point out that there is no way they lose to both, or probably either, of BYU and ASU if they have Kalkbrenner.
I am having trouble coming up with an example of where the Selection Committee gave a team a big mulligan because it was missing someone important for a few games. Can you think of one?
