Big East January '26 Thread

These SH performances at home vs Nova and Creighton have been 🤢

Why so angry? Unecessary. He turned Iona into a tourney team in two years, he got StJ a two seed in two years. He's a great coach - stop being so ignorant. It's dolts like you that make me continue to push the objectivity thing.

What he's trying to do now in adapting to the portal is hard - winning with a bunch of brand new players, with no PG, is hard. He shot too far to one side, and it's imbalanced.
prankster sez:

Culture! Coach Hurley sells the UConn culture of winning. Basketball Capitol of the World.

Come here to work your ass completely off. Bulk up. Train. Work harder! Again! Become integral within the team.

Or go somewhere else.

Biting self differently.

I don't mean this in an egoistic way, but basically he is selling himself as the master of the game.

Give me two 4s, a 2 guard and a reasonable backup, three 3s, two who can play combo, and a dominant center.

(Oh! Sthi! Did I forget the PG? AGGGhhhh! I totally did!)

But he, Pitino, is the "glue guy". That is what he market's, and how he markets.

He feels he can simply plug and play these portal drafts. His way can, and has (BP - Before Portal). But everyone was drafting and retaining/developing talent, back in those days.

Maintaining the "brand identity" where it counts ( in the minds of the portal players) is pretty important. Especially considering Hurley. Who among them have the guts and commitment to develop in his system?

Seton Hall has been incredibly overrated. Their best wins are K State and NC State. Neither of which are good.

Creighton has just looked good the last couple of games. I will admit I was wrong about them. They looked like they quit against Nebraska and to a lesser extent Kansas State. It appears they just overscheduled their OOC. Gonzaga and Iowa State were clearly too good for this year's Creighton, and Nebraska is turning out to be a lot better than anyone expected. Baylor, Oregon and Kansas State are more Creighton's level, and all three games ended up being competitive, with Creighton going 1-2 in those games.

They still look soft and slow, but they are efficient on both ends for a bubble team.

Every Big East team sucks and any team that lost to a Big East team sucks. We heard you the first 100 times you said it.

Seton Hall's rebounding will be their downfall. Creighton is not a particularly great rebounding team and they are eating on the glass right now.

Love the Hall's defense.

You have to admit they've out-punted their coverage though. They're 9-5 ATS with their only bad game being a win over Wagner.

Creighton missed last 9 shots and its a 2pt game.

This is a really important game for Creighton tournament resume.

UConn is not the only team getting worked by Big East refs. Watching Creighton Seton Hall game and Seton Hall grabbing and fouling on their press 10 time a possession, meanwhile any ticky tack contact by Creighton is being called as a foul.

They've also gone from preseason 93 to 46 in kenpom. That's pretty impressive.

Refs weren't letting Seton Hall lose this one. Kind of remarkable how many fouls they are allowed to commit on their home floor without penalty.

Probably not a good way to run a basketball conference because it creates all these middling programs who can't win on the road, but can't lose at home.

That jumpball that SH forced on Schwartz to swing the possession arrow back their way swung the game, looked like SH was fouling the hell out of him on the sideline before the forced jumpball call

3 seton hall players were attacking on the first tie up call. I couldn't tell if there was a foul but if someone's hand grazing a jersey is a foul, then something had to be called there.

regardless, I was rooting for the hall

refs were responsible for the comeback. Seton Hall was egregiously fouling in their half court press, and they couldn’t make many shots either outside of FT line.
