Big East January '26 Thread

Changing my requirements for UConn's Big East season. Need to roll everyone and go undefeated.

You do realize that every conference is a zero sum game once the conference season starts, right?

…is St John’s even going to make the tournament?
I think BE gets 4 bids in the following order:
1 UConn
2 Nova
3 Hall
4 SJU

SJU and Creighton bubble teams

Nova plays hard. ..I am very happy that they are improved. And that there are no more camera shots of Neptune stroking his chin in disbelief… But, they are not there yet

The big money guys are pleased and the purse strings will be opening …they were not going to accept more of the past few yrs BS

I understand. Only making a tongue-in-cheek comment because if we want the #1 seed in the East we really do need to roll the conference. The Big East doesn't get the benefit of the doubt like other conferences.

It is very encouraging to see Nova appear as clearly a tournament team (God knows the conference needs a few schools to step up), but back for Villanova is a bit different (and a much higher bar to hurdle) than back for most of the conference.

Willard can get a lot further here than he ever had been and still not have them back. I'd like to see them get to where Jay had them but let's see them take it a step at a time, get to what Creighton and Marquette have been for the past three or four years, then to what would be back for Nova.
I'm of course not saying they're back to where Jay Wright had them winning championships but they're back to being a legit national program/tournament team in Willard's first season. It's a process but it can be a really quick process nowadays and he has them ahead of schedule, they were picked to finish 7th in the conference.

Some people were questioning why Willard would leave a Big 10 program with good pedigree for the Big East. He did it because Nova has better pedigree and is set up for success. He brought in guys like Whitehead, Delgado, Myles Powell, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Tyrese Samuel, Khadeen Carrington to Seton Hall. He won't have any problem with the transfer portal and high school recruiting at Nova and they will be bringing back really good players.

But seriously…the huskies having a good season is important this year. The conference is not great…. Last year seemed different . This year it’s important for UConn to succeed and for someone else to emerge. I love it to be nova. But I am not convinced yet.

I can speak for UConn fans in saying that it's good to see Nova doing well again after the last 3 craptastic years under Neptune. He tried to play Wright's style without having the correct players for it with the exception of his first year nor did he have the teaching ability of Wright. That's what separates Wright and made him the best coach in the nation-it was his ability to teach the game. Neptune wasn't a good recruiter either. It's good Willard is implementing his own style instead of trying to emulate Wright's style.

I have a ton of respect for the Villanova basketball program-it's elite. They should never look as bad as they did for the last 3 years. Willard sets a high floor. Hopefully, he can get Nova to a higher ceiling than he has ever achieved in his career. Nova's fan support and resources will help him with that.

What are the respective records since the 20-21 season when we rejoined the BE?
In the past decade, you played 20 games and won 13. That’s pretty good. And I do expect the Huskies to win at least three more this year. The closer we get to the present moment the more Neptune comes into my math uggg

Yeah you’ve said the 3x now, but I asked about the last 5.5 seasons, none of which involved Ollie

In honor of his craptastic 3 year reign in Radnor. He completely killed my enthusiasm for March madness for 3 straight years. So much joy in actually looking forward to watching the cats play now. Michigan curbstomping aside.

The big question is will Pitino go with players or assistant coaches for who’s fault it is
Very simple..the $3 million man ( B. Hopkins ) not even half as good as the $6 million Man ( Dybantsa )

So the Big East is UConn. The Big East men’s basketball is starting to look like the Big East women’s basketball.

St. Johns makes a midwest tour with trips to Butler and Creighton next week. It will be a big week for the Red Storm. Lose both games, and they have some big problems.

How is that your takeaway from my post? I’m predicting at least 3 bids in addition to UConn
