It’s kind of like when some nut job cuts you off on the highway and you honk at them and then they go absolutely berserk and start following you and weaving in and out trying to get you back….. for honking at their bad behavior. Here’s what I don’t get…Powell commits the hard foul, Hopkins goes after him (which I get) but then Powell keeps going ham “seeing red” going after two other guys, none of which are Hopkins.
Back look for Providence: you commit the dirty play and are most out of control in the skirmish?
Newt had swag. Cling had playful tude. Steph was hard nosed. Cam was an animal. Alex was Alex.No question that attitude goes a long way. Hurley alluded to it last year when he said "we have a bunch of nice guys". Look at the championship teams in 23 and 24, you had AJax, Sanogo, Clingan, Spencer, and Newton. Newton talked a ton of trash on the court. It wasn't always visible on TV but you could see it if you saw the game live.
This is the best attempt to explain it - old piece from G Tech days. Duncan Powell haircut, explained: Georgia Tech's 'Shag Man' shows off unique hairdo for ACC Tournament | Sporting NewsPowell’s haircut? Is there an explanation?
The James foul for ejection was kind of a head scratcher. Not for the ejection but the WTH attitude of James to just blatantly push the guy. Prov still was in the game with maybe 9-10 minutes to play-could potentially come back- and he basically says I'm outa here to his coach and teammates. Bad look.
No you don’t.I want to see the nuns suit up.
I saw the second one and it was Hopkins.they were on Ejiofor not Hopkins
I could tell you some wild stories from the late 90's/early 2000's about Providence basketball, the mob, fights etc.Providence, RI. Land of Mafia and strip joints. Last place in CBB that can produce really good scandals, like a Cooley. Last place in CBB where fans are looking for a good bare knuckled brawl. Don't change my darling. They are the Philadelphia of college hoops.
Don’t forget, no athletes. As compared to all the athletes on those NC squads.Newt had swag. Cling had playful tude. Steph was hard nosed. Cam was an animal. Alex was Alex.
23 was something different. Their attitude came out in the their waves of energy. The Sanogo/Clingan 2 headed was core to their identity.
This years team really doesn’t have any of it. Tarris is a teddy bear. Solo is aloof. Mullins kind of emotionless. Alex is Alex. Silas has some, but it’s not enough to carry the group. The bench has been minimized. It's personality is really set by Alex, as the 4 year captain. With that, it's a team that doesn't do much flashy, just executes the game plan. Let's see if that's enough.
Sadly, you are correctThis thread is more evidence of how much St. John's and Pitino are in some of our fans heads right now.
This game was about Providence players and fans being out of control and Kim English having no control over his program.
Honestly ridiculous the team who didn't instigate got more ejections. Powell should be suspended by the league for a few games.
Add a game for that god awful haircut.
The likelihood of a pretty bad injury from that play is so high. Dirty play that does not belong in the sport.I mean, technically yeah , it was definitely a little extra, but I’m cool with an old-school hard 80s 90s big east foul once in a while, especially if it’s on Hopkins and anybody from St. John’s lol
Wild that they don't have any recruits signed for next season. Wonder if they are going to go portal heavy in the offseasonNova just keeps chugging along, 20-5 overall. Willard has done such a great job in his first season there.
Powell is a little "edgy." Those tattoos look like they were put on with a broken piece of glass They've got some tough kids on that team. Sellers to me always looks like he is ready for a fight. He is a hell of a competitor but looks like he could blow up in a second. You can only channel anger as a motivator for so long and eventually it boils over. I was enjoying the game up to that point. Powell will probably be suspended. He looked like he was egging on some PC fans in the stands later on when he was out of the game. Here’s what I don’t get…Powell commits the hard foul, Hopkins goes after him (which I get) but then Powell keeps going ham “seeing red” going after two other guys, none of which are Hopkins.
